What an awful draft pick
Brilliant lol! This was the year we get rid of Ware due to injuries/back issues.
The plan was apparently to replace him with Spencer and using our 2 and 3 to acquire Laurence.

At least ware brought insane intangibles as a team leader and was an all time great Cowboy.

:hammer::hammer::hammer: Without Hardy....tank doesn't get 8 sacks. More like 3-4 maybe. Maaaaybe

Exactly. Hardy is what he is, but his presence in the field drew attention away from Lawrence and helped him to get those career high numbers, far and away higher than anything before or since.

It may be time to move on but the Cowboys probably won't because they need pass rushers. They held onto Anthony Spencer during all his injuries and missed games because they have such a need for pass rushers.
Front office needs to be working late.....no time to rest. If the D improves, this team can contend. We're not gonna stand for a 13-3 season being followed by a 9-7 season.

After his upcoming surgery.

After he's given time to rehab.

To simply cut a player without regard to the possibility of an effective return is cutting one's nose off to spite one's face.
Cut?.....only after upgrading the D across the board, if possible......but free rides and awaiting for rehab (AGAIN), shouldn't be the saving grace for some.......including DLaw.

I doubt the team is going to "max" out the DE spots even after free agency and the draft.

They'll wait to see if/how Lawrence responds.

I guess I don't see the need to release Lawrence right now.

It's premature to say he's done after having another back surgery. It's not ideal obviously, but we don't know the severity of his back and the prognosis of its condition.

Bizarre that some are dying to write Lawrence off. The Cowboys lose absolutely nothing keeping him around. No one we are bringing back nor anyone we might bring in has ever been as productive as Lawrence was in 2015. He needs another surgery..... Guess what? Almost every player on the roster will need a surgery of some sort before it's all said and done. We've known for weeks that DL was going to need another surgery, this is nothing new.

Fans can clamor for it non-stop til March 9 or whenever the nfl year starts, but the Cowboys aren't signing a significant DE. They also almost certainly won't draft "3 DEs", more than likely they'll take one. If we get any sacks from DE next year, it will likely come from Irving, a rookie, or one of these castoffs everyone is so eager to get rid of.

Rookie's that aren't top of the draft talent just rarely ever come in and give a team that pass rushing presence that we need. We've just been inefficient in allocating draft resources to the line. Whether it's bad luck in Lawrence/Crawfords case with injuries, or just stupid decisions like Gregory, or questionable picks like Jaylon. Our return on investment for "premium" picks has been pretty bad.

I get the mindset that you shouldn't blow up your cap on a player, but we really need to invest in a FA that can provide some pass rush. We just don't have the horses up front right now, and if we're relying on Irving, the rookie, or the orphans to elevate the pass defense to something that can attributed to a real contender, then we shouldn't be surprised if we're sitting out early again because of our inability to stop the better QB's in the league. I'm not really a fan of wasting seasons when you have a QB on a rookie contract and this has been the same Groundhog Day story for the past several seasons. For some reason, in the offseason, everyone forgets that the pass rush was terrible when we needed it the most.

Exactly right.

But it hasn't stopped many "couch" doctors from offering their expertise diagnoses.

And back surgery is the same as the others? C'mon, you're not ignorant enough to believe that and neither is anyone else. Back surgery is a serious deal for anyone, especially an athlete getting into 'car wrecks' on the line all day.

Thanks for cheering us up.

Just read that Tapper says he's 100% ready to go so there's that bit of good news.
The only good news is that we have another body to hopefully work with.

There is nothing that indicates he is the answer we so desperately need. It is not like he demonstrated the talent level that Jaylon Smith had.

Cheerful or not, the Cowboys have painted themselves into a corner with all the huge contracts. And teams don't let great passrushers go. Even if we had space, there's no one we could really spend a lot of $$ on who would be worth it. Anyone we could get would have major flaws.

A back injury isn't a death sentence. Lawrence could very well come back and be a big contributor next season.

Unfortunately, the backbone is a sensitive instrument and football isn't a sport that's sensitive to delicate problems -- a shaky situation at best.
