News: DMN: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (who?) over Kam Chancellor? The top Cowboys draft blunders since 2000

I had the same reaction from Dixon. He was a mediocre prospect that was a huge reach. I still remember the spin job was that hey, he was a team captain. He simply couldn't play.

Now Carter was a different story, I had heard about his issues in Athens and didn't want anything to do with him. Then the kick to the junk and right after that another one. I was so mad I couldn't even see. Just awful.

Team captain who lost his starting job during his senior year. Total disaster of a pick. That draft was epically bad. Willie "Skid-stain" Blade? Trash can of dirt Nix? Colston Weatherington? Ugh.

Sad thing is, compared to the 1995 and 2009 drafts, this one wasn't as bad.

The inept drafting of that era is still staggering to look back at.

Well, that helps explain why we have 2 playoff wins in the past 20 years.

Jerry Jones going for the gusto. Trying to prove that he's an NFL maverick. Rolling the dice for the big hit when solid players are on the board.

Jerry has his faults we all know that much- but we've been a VERY good team at drafting players over the last SEVERAL years. One of the best in the league in my opinion.

I think the biggest mistake was drafting 25 year old Terrance Newman over 20 year old Terrell Suggs in 2003. A good pass rusher would have made the entire secondary look better.

thats highly debatable. and are we talking pure player or team needs? we can go back and forth all day

Its not debatable at all in my opinion.

We've done a fantastic job in the draft over the past several years. Few teams (if any) have done a better overall job recently.

We are one of the best young teams in the league. And the FO deserves some credit for that.

My grip is the Escobar pick. Didn't his body suggest weak blocking problems. Now if they would use him as a possession receiver, maybe.

There's a certain fish that posts on the board who happens to think Escobar is incredibly strong based on
his game winning "block" in Pittsburgh. I tried to explain that getting driven backwards 6 ft. isn't a very good
example of strength. Then his fuzzy brother came to his rescue to badger me with condescending comments.
Ah, good times.... lol

Hindsight probably says you are right but the Cowboys needed a shut down CB that year.

Kam Chancellor was a hybrid LB/S at VT and folks didnt know what his position would be
Hmmm there's another player of that type in this draft this forum is against taking for the same reason...

thats all well and good but doesnt make it fact.

fact per se isn't subjective, but seeing as interpretation of them is: does that in turn make them subjective, seeing as what we do based on said facts, is in fact based on our interpretation of them.

until history is interpreted correctly.

Dixon was a horrendous blunder and was a projected 6th rounder...that we took in the 2nd round. He was the worst safety I've ever seen. It was amazing when I would review games how almost every single time in zone coverage he would go the wrong way and pick up the wrong receiver. I've never seen a safety go towards the receiver that is double covered and ignore the receiver in single coverage. He had 1 great game against the Skins and that's all I can ever thank him for.

YR

What about passing on Derrick Brooks and trading out of the 1st round in 1995.......aka Sherman Williams over Derrick Brooks?

looking at those draft blunders is the reason why this team cannot win playoff games in last twenty years.

Over half of those really aren't blunders, just guys who are or were better than every team in the league projected.

Yeah. If there any greater distance between rounds in some of comparisons, they players would be in different drafts all together.
