Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback B.W. Webb has the ‘perfect Mother’s Day gift’

By Jon Machota / Special Contributor

IRVING – Dallas Cowboys fourth-round draft pick B.W. Webb didn’t plan on attending the third and final day of rookie minicamp on Sunday. That’s because the 5-11, 180-pound cornerback was heading back to Virginia to receive his diploma.

On Saturday, the kinesiology and health sciences major said he had plans to walk in the William & Mary graduation ceremony the following day.

On the Valley Ranch practice field, Webb has been working on lining up at both the inside and outside corner positions. Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne already have the starting outside spots locked up and Orlando Scandrick is the team’s nickel corner, but Webb says he plans on contributing in his rookie season.

“I think I can help out,” said Webb, who some experts have projected as a slot corner. “I’m ready for wherever they put me.”

pffft I'd skip graduation if I were in his shoes.

What is so appealing about wearing a goofy gown and cap and celebrating being a brick in the wall?

The interesting part is that Oscan had much better metrics than Carr even though he played the tougher position.

Carr needs to step up his play this year to justify his salary as I think Mo and Oscan outplayed him. He'll never justify his salary as that was Jerry's stupidity bidding against himself for a second tier CB but I still hoped he would play better than he did. Maybe Kiffen and Marinelli will let him play more to his strengths this year but it remains to be seen. On a just a play per dollar scale he was by far the worst of the CBs and Mo was by far the best bargain of the bunch.

Are you kidding me? This is absurd. Not to mention that graduation is often more for the family of the graduate than the graduate himself.

I couldn't imagine the family disaster that would have occurred if I refused to walk.

Obviously it means a lot to him and his mother for him to be part of the graduation ceremony.

What? Are you crazy? Graduation is one of the happiest days you can have you get your degree after all of that hard work you did in class. Its a time to celebrate with your family and friends and you only get it once.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Nobody would be that dumb to say something like that.

It would be a tough decision. Many times guys are the first in their family to get a college degree and it is a big deal, especially to the Moms. On the other hand, if I was a 4th round pick for an NFL team, it would be really difficult for me to ever voluntarily not be on the field.

Might as well be playing golf in Cancun with Tone Lomo.

What on earth are you talking about? Carr was by far our best CB last year. Mo did well for a rookie but looked average over all. He is the one I hope improves out there. Carr is a terrific corner who loves to hit hard and is clearly the leader out of the bunch.

I do not think that carr was that bad. I just think that the safety play was so bad that it put carr in bad coverages.

Many of these guys are some of the first people in their families to graduate from college so although to some people it might not seem like a big deal it is certainly a big deal to the families of the graduates. Not saying Webb is a member of a family in that circumstance but if so it is very reasonable to miss a day for graduation.
