If I hadn't walked with my cap and gown it would have been WWIII in our household :laugh2:

Rasta, we don't need no education.

No dark sarcasm in the class room.

He just speaks the truth.

I also forgot that Brandon Carr came from a small school (Grand Valley State). Hopefully he can teach these other small school young padawans (who play DB) on our team a thing or two about adjusting to the NFL.

Exactly! They just need to leave those kids alone, am I right?

It would be a tough decision. Many times guys are the first in their family to get a college degree and it is a big deal, especially to the Moms. On the other hand, if I was a 4th round pick for an NFL team, it would be really difficult for me to ever voluntarily not be on the field.

But how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?

pffft I'd skip graduation if I were in his shoes.

What is so appealing about wearing a goofy gown and cap and celebrating being a brick in the wall?

Here is a problem with this country.

We think being in the NFL is more important than earning a college degree.

Pretty sure the guy was referring to the ceremony only. He can still pick up his degree after the ceremony.

It was important to Webb and his family how others feel about it really plays no part. It is the norm for people to point their fingers and claim what they would do but they are not in his shoes.

I always love hearing what someone else would do but then they never have accomplished what Webb already has. Just the same mindless banter by the same old people

I skipped my graduation ceremony. Just picked up my diploma.

I didn't want to attend a several hour ceremony. Seemed like a waste of time. My mom was disappointed, though. My youngest sister was thrilled, though. She didn't want to be there for hours on end, either.

He did it for him and his family. That matters more than anything else. It's a great accomplishment.

The ceremony is tremendously important. His family should have the chance to attend and celebrate his accomplishment. A college degree, for most of the players drafted is going to have far more value over the long run than what they do on the football field. I attend several ceremonies every year -- it is very very special for the family and for those graduating. No way he should miss that.

I'm big on education myself, but I'd trade my college degree in a heartbeat for an NFL career. And I don't see that as a particular problem.

That said, if I were Webb, I wouldn't dream of missing Commencement for the last day of a rookie minicamp.

I agree. There will be plenty of practices in his career. Only one chance to walk in your graduation.

I was thinking the same thing.

Cap and gown is good for the memories ... but I think having the memories of becoming a possible major contributor on the Cowboys far exceeds that of the cap and gown.

I would have stayed for camps.

He can have both it does not have to be one or the other. He went out and evidently impressed the writers on how he did.

People act as if by going to the Graduation that now he can't have a career in the NFL?

What? Are you crazy? Graduation is one of the happiest days you can have you get your degree after all of that hard work you did in class. Its a time to celebrate with your family and friends and you only get it once.
The only thing fun about my graduation day was the banger we threw that night.

I completely hated everything else.

As much as I respect any hard working athlete like BW Webb, I've got a lot of respect for the guys who are concerned with actually finishing their college education, getting a degree, and graduating. Great accomplishment. Just remember that you're one of the few guys that barring injury/lockout/etc. would have something to fall back on.

Yes it comes down to the individual. Some want to be in the spotlight, dressed up, and be seen by many (family included) for that night. Others may be more private, and feel no need for it.

Celebrating an actual accomplishment vs. something that may or may not happen. Doesn't seem like much of a choice at all
