Review games from last year. Most were garbage time cleanup sacks. He had sacks in Philly & NY wins, but he was ineffective most of the time.

I have watched every game Ellis has played in Dallas. If you think Ellis sucks fine I think he is a very solid player and has been for quite a while. I'm actually not upset with Dallas moving on I do think this team at this stage has to remove disgruntled or in Ellis case insecure players if they are to send a loud and clear message to this entire team of what is expected and what will be tolerated. As for his play Ellis can still do the job

Where in his post did it say he "sucks"? It was an illustration of how he played last year, which was nothing close to how he played in 2007.

"ineffective most of the time" I would say falls under the same idea of his play was bad or sucks but thanks for speaking up for him anyways. Glad we could play the semantics game.

in 07 Ellis had 31 tackles 12.5 sacks this past season 36 tackles 8 sacks and an int. While I would not call these HOF numbers I would still consider them to be solid numbers for a guy who was splitting time

I remember the 5 teams that had interest in Roy Williams as soon as he was released

it ended up taking a month before Cincy finally signed him

don't believe what agents tell you

Already interest in Greg Ellis

When news broke of the Cowboys' release of Greg Ellis earlier today, the phone of Ellis' agent, James D. Williams, started to ring from interested parties.

"Greg is appreciative of the time he spent in Dallas and the many good years he had there," Williams said. "The organization treated him very well in spite of the times that we had to deal with the business side. Dallas is home for him and we understand everything must come to an end in this business. He wished them well and they wished him well. Now he's free to go on."

Williams would not divulge the teams but he believes a deal will be done in time for Ellis to be ready to go for training camp. He said the No. 1 concern for Ellis is family and he does not want to uproot for the sake of uprooting.

So, do we put Carolina on the list? Ellis played at the University of Carolina and is a Carolina native.

Then let's look at the teams with Ellis ties - Miami, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Cincinnati - right off the bat.

The Dolphins turned into Cowboys South the last two years once Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland took over, but they just re-signed Jason Taylor and have Joey Porter.

Tampa Bay's new defensive coordinator is Jim Bates, who was Ellis' position coach at one time. And Philadelphia just added former coordinator Brian Stewart. Mike Zimmer is running the defense in Cincinnati and the Bengals have signed Tank Johnson and Roy Williams this off-season. They have a need for pass rushers and Ellis still can do that job if not be an every down guy.

I can't take credit for it, but theebs mentioned Washington in a conversation as a possible landing spot for Ellis. Their depth seems to be an issue at DE, and Ellis would start right away. Snyder seems to covet former Cowboys; not as much as Ireland and Parcells.

That's funny, because playing that game is all you have done in this thread. You brought up the word "sucks". Nobody else did.

The fact remains his 12.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 2007 was clearly superior and more consistent than the spotty play he had last season. He split time and even missed entire games in 2007 but was more effective. Go figure.

I wonder how some of his remaining fans would feel about this.

Good for you, Greg!

Just play well, except not against us!

I have no doubt he'll get picked up, and probably have a solid year, especially in the right situation, but no one is giving him 8 million dollars to play for them.

Unless that no one is Al Davis.

Greg Ellis says 4 teams interested

Former Cowboys' linebacker Greg Ellis says the past 24 hours have been hectic and chaotic. Ellis says he's been inundated with phone calls from his friends.

"It's good to know so many people in Dallas care about me to send a text, send an email," says Ellis.

He was a guest on Good Morning Texas.

Ellis says his agent has already been contacted by four teams, mostly from the West Coast because the East Coast offices had closed down by the time the news spread that he had been cut by the Cowboys.

Ellis can't sign a new deal until 24 hours have passed, but he says he'll just see who calls today an formulate a plan. He says he's not upset with the news of his release.

"No," he says. "People have to understand the NFL is a business. For Jerry in his eyes, this was a better move for the team."

Ellis hasn't been the quietest guy on the team, but he says his complaints in the past didn't lead to his release.

"That wasn't an issue," says Ellis. "Jerry and I have talked two or three times in his office, about this subject. So he and I have always kept good communication this subject. There are no hostile feelings."

Watch my full interview with Ellis.

Being ineffective and suck is pretty much on par with each other. If you did not like the choice of words well too damn bad frankly I don’t give care what you say you seem to get off on dogging me go for it I can deal with a pimple like you any day. And the fact remains those are still pretty solid numbers in 08 as good no but solid numbers yes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Washington or Philly. I think he stays in the NFC. He'll probably get ~$4 mil, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a 10 sack season. All you guys who think he sucks are idiots. For however "bad" he was last year, he was a hell of a lot better than Spencer.
