Already interest in Greg Ellis

When news broke of the Cowboys' release of Greg Ellis earlier today, the phone of Ellis' agent, James D. Williams, started to ring from interested parties.

"Greg is appreciative of the time he spent in Dallas and the many good years he had there," Williams said. "The organization treated him very well in spite of the times that we had to deal with the business side. Dallas is home for him and we understand everything must come to an end in this business. He wished them well and they wished him well. Now he's free to go on."

Williams would not divulge the teams but he believes a deal will be done in time for Ellis to be ready to go for training camp. He said the No. 1 concern for Ellis is family and he does not want to uproot for the sake of uprooting.

So, do we put Carolina on the list? Ellis played at the University of Carolina and is a Carolina native.

Then let's look at the teams with Ellis ties - Miami, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Cincinnati - right off the bat.

The Dolphins turned into Cowboys South the last two years once Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland took over, but they just re-signed Jason Taylor and have Joey Porter.

Tampa Bay's new defensive coordinator is Jim Bates, who was Ellis' position coach at one time. And Philadelphia just added former coordinator Brian Stewart. Mike Zimmer is running the defense in Cincinnati and the Bengals have signed Tank Johnson and Roy Williams this off-season. They have a need for pass rushers and Ellis still can do that job if not be an every down guy.

Just stay the hell out of Philly.

They dont need another pass rusher, especially one who spent his entire career in Big D

He's going to Florida or Ohio and he's signing a one year deal in the neighborhood of three million dollars and a five million signing bonus.

My gut says Miami.
Then Tampa.
Last choice Cincy.

You think someone is going to pay Ellis $8 million next year? You're nuts! If he gets more than $2 million a year, I'll be surprised.

Somebody will sign him and probably petty quickly, but no one was going to trade for him.

He'll milk a desperate club or retire.
Miami will pay and so will Cincy.

Geography aside, I'm betting it's either Philly or New England.

I think he ought to go to Cincy where he can be sure that winning will never come before making sure he gets the role he wants.

Greg's priorities...
  1. Make sure the team promises him a starting role.
  2. Make sure the team never drafts competition at his position. Afterall, he's ageless!
  3. After the first two criteria are met, its all about team and character.

We will not miss the moaning, but we will miss the pressure he creates. He could have a nice year with the right team.

Is the university of carolina a new institution? Man can these guys research before printing.

New England because they feel they can make a run..

no way on this godly earth that somebody pays Greg Ellis 8m bucks. He'll likely take a 2 year deal for about 3 m per year average. I imagine Cincy or Tampa Bay. I think he'd rather play 4-3 DE again.

New England will be the likely landing spot... I reported this a while back.
