TOTAL AGREEMENT on that assessment!

Been telling my buddies this, they think Im crazy, but I'm tellin ya that side arm throw 15 yards down will not open up the field.

didn't see a whole lot of deep route action in a long time. We are screwed.

bring on the slams, but that scout is right on. my glasses were off

How about the 2 TD throws in the Falcons game last year, or the 80 yard bomb in the Skins game that TO dropped. Is 80 yards not far enough? Jake Dehlome can't throw the ball 40 yards in the air if he got a running start, but has taken the PANTHERS to a SB and an NFC Championship game. I think he will be just fine.

I know I am preaching to the choir, but the games down the stretch and Romo wasn't playing with a lead.

Defenses were gearing up for the pass because we were constantly behind and he was pressing.

If the defense plays well Romo will play well this year!

Jake Delhomme is awful and is only starting in this league thanks to one Steve Smith saving his arse. He is really bad. He's shown a flash here and there but as a whole....................nah.

So a network that doesn't like the Cowboys puts on some "scout" and he rips Romo. Mkay.

Agreed, he was young/inexperienced.

However, there's really no excuses for breakdowns when things are tough. We need him to step up when a comeback might be necessary.

He played well when he replaced Drew Bledsoe because teams didn't know how to defend against him and because he was making simple throws.

So NFL teams didn't know how to defend simple throws? Ridiculous.

The "Not knowing how to defend against a new QB" is also ridiculous. If it takes time for teams to catch up to new players styles, why don't all rookie QB's lead the league in QB rating during their first few games? Do people actually think before they write this drivel?

Why don't we just sign a new street FA QB every week and start him? If this writer is correct, it will confuse the heck out of NFL coaches and we will win the Super Bowl.

Tony Romo is the weakness. I'm not sure he’s the answer. He played well when he replaced Drew Bledsoe because teams didn't know how to defend against him and because he was making simple throws. But during the last four to five weeks of the season, he couldn’t make the plays his team needed him to make. He looked like Rex Grossman, throwing off his back foot. They do have some weapons for him, and they've got a good defense, so his mistakes won't be magnified until the playoffs.
I don't see the issue here. Where's the "ripping?"

He was not making simple throws when he replaced Bledsoe. You don't put up a high yards per attempt making simple throws. It is true that the more game film opposing defenses got on Romo the better they could game plan him. I think everyone expected that to happen. It is also true that QBs learn from experience and can get better. Romo can get better.

He never looked like Rex Grossman. Grossman has played in 24 games and been counted on as the starter since coming into the league in 2003. That means he has seen a lot more reps in practice, training camp and the regular season yet looks horrible. Romo may have been in the league as long as Grossman, but is much less truly experienced. And with that less experience has still looked better than Grossman.

Romo does have a tendency to get away from solid mechanics. I think that is a fair assessment. You could apply that same exact assessment to most young, inexperienced QBs. Romo can learn from his mistakes. Will he? We don't know yet, but it is possible. This is not like Bledsoe who kept throwing off his back foot well into his career. Some actually thought he would learn not to do that when he came to Dallas. He didn't. Romo is young enough to learn and hopefully will.
Good post and I agree. I love how these critics just ignore that Romo was a young guy who was thrown into the fire with no training camp and no weekly practice with starter snaps. Truth is, it's amazing he played as well as he did given the circumstances. A lot of young QBs could have played much worse than he did yet still be given accolades as if he's an accomplished, established player. (Matt Leinart anyone?)

Romo may not be the next Staubach or Aikman, and of course he probably isn't. I have some doubts on if he can control those impulse throws myself. But to make all these sweeping judgements of him based on one little stretch of games in basically his rookie year is crazy.

I'm no anonymous scout but what I saw last year was a kid stepping in a very tough situation and breathing new life into the team.

Then I saw a kid, with virtually no experience at the pro level, almost carry the entire team on his back when the defense took half the season off.

I saw a kid watch his receivers drop perfectly thrown, game winning passes and then watched him come back to them without blinking.

I saw the running game begin to open up with MB once defenses realized they needed to account for Romo with a couple more players then it took to neutralise Bledsoe.

I saw a mentally tough kid who played with the attitude, controlled emotion and leadership qualities of an established veteran QB.

I saw all this while the kid was playing behind the same o-line that behind which an established veteran QB could barely even get a pass off.

I saw a kid who is the best QB Dallas has lined up since.... Aikman.

I'm not saying the kid is the next Aikman, he's only played a half season.

I am saying that I am very excited to see what he does after an offseason in which he knew that this was his team and a pre-season of work as the starting QB. I think that he is going to turn out to be the real deal.

I also love the "once defenses figure him out logic" LOL

If anything the reverse logic applies. As his knowledge of opposing defenses and his ability to read them increases he should only be come more effective.

I've got a number 12 jersey and a number 8.

If things go the way I think they will I'll be adding to that collection sometime next year.

If a QB can throw off the wrong foot...can a kicker kick off the wrong hand?

LOL

Watch a kicker kick next time.. see where he left hand is and then see where his right hand is.... just imagine if they were reveresed one time

Rip? this was spot on ...Romo is still an unknown who plays a sandlot style ...I have no idea what to get from Tony when teams figure who to keep him in the pocket - he's short.

I really think I read that prior to the preseason starting. I could be wrong, of course... but I do think this is a couple of months old.

What are you talking about, Romo has a weak arm?

I am not sure what QB you have been watching, but Romo has very good arm strenght, in TC in San Antonio I say Romo throw the ball over 50 yards in the air on some plays.

This is not a sign of a weak arm.......now Brad Johnson is a different story.

The scout says Romo cant make the plays, but didnt Romo drive the team right down the field IN A PLAYOFF GAME for the potential game winner?

The scout just lost all cred in my book, what a dumb arse.

Must be a Deadskin scout:laugh2:
