Can Cowboys beat the Saints on Dec. 19?

if you are a Cowboys fan and watched the Saints take apart Bill Belichick's Patriots on Monday Night Football, you had to ask yourself this question: How the heck are the Cowboys going to beat the Saints in the Superdome?

So I called Cowboys radio analyst Babe Laufenberg this morning and asked him that very question.

His response: "They can't beat the team that played last night. But things change...Of all the great teams that have played in the NFL only two have gone through the regular season undefeated. Will New Orleans go undefeated? I would think not. Why couldn't the Cowboys be the team to beat them?"

The Saints finish up:
at Washington
at Atlanta
vs. Dallas
vs. Tampa
at Carolina

I think Mr. Laufenberg may have this one wrong.

The way they are playing right now they would give anyone serious trouble.

Beating New England is one thing, but the way they did it was impressive. Belichick usually has his teams prepared to the tee, they looked disorganized and completely confounded, which is rare.

It is not that the Patriots have a great defense. They really don't. Their pass defense is one of the worst. It was easy to see that the Saints would move the football.

I was more impressed how they played defensively. That is what is making them win. The offense gets the headlines, but Gregg Williams has that defense doing very well.

There is a flaw to be found. The rest of their schedule definitely supports the Saints. If any team can beat them it would be Dallas and Dallas MUST apply heavy pressure to Brees.

Brees has a history of stinker games just like Romo. They all come with the QB under pressure.

If you ask me 3 things have to happen on defense to stop the Saints.
  1. Stop the run
  2. Pressure the QB
  3. Press coverage

If Wade (as normal) stops the run and pressures the QB, but plays soft coverage. The Cowboys will have trouble. Brees has no issues hitting checkdowns, screens, or quick slants. They have to get to the QB and get to him quick. The Saints make big plays like the Eagles. The difference is the Saints can run the ball and dump off to the guy underneath. (something McNabb doesn't like doing unless his name is Westbrook)

After watching the NO/NE game, I agree we will have our hands full against the Saints, .. but our defense is way better than the Patriots.

Losing to them in the regular season may not be the worst thing to happen to us.

Even better, he actually spoke intelligently on the subject. It's possible we beat them, but if the team that played last night shows up, chances are we get stomped.

Oh I think we are THE TEAM to beat them. Don't get twisted about what the Pats did against them. Offensively the Pats can't run the ball like we can and Brady can't move and make things happen like Romo can. No, I'm not saying Romo is better then Brady. Its just that Romo can get around the blitzs and find guys downfield. Defensively, we are better then the Pats regardless of what the rankings may say. I could care less about rankings. Our front 7 will get after Brees all day and our secondary has plenty of speed and can cover. I think we match up extremely well with the Saints. Heck, I think the Saints will have their hands full with our O. The Saints D is ok but I believe we can definately move the ball on them and SCORE...

Our run game (if successful) would be the best defense against the Saints. Keep the ball, shorten the game, and keep our defense off the field -- only chance.

New Orleans and Minnesota both look unbeatable at home...but on any given Sunday any team can win.

He did make a prediction, he essentially said if we hop in our time machines and reset the date to Nov 30th at 8:30 PM and replace the Patriots with the Dallas Cowboys and we battle the NO Saints that there would be no way for Dallas to win the game.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think it's kind of cool that the Saints are having this kind of success. They have Historically been one of the very worst franchises in the NFL. I don't hope they win it all, but I can't fault that team at all. Beyond impressive the way they are playing.

First of all, the Cowboys defense is better han NE's this year - like it or not. So I don't see the Saints scoring so many points early on Dallas that it turns into a one-dimensional passing day. In that case NO has the advantage.

So if Dallas' defense keeps the scoring down then it all comesdown to Jason Garrett and his willingness to control the game with the run, because in that area Dallas has the better run game and therefore advantage.

So if Dallas can run the ball early and take control of thew game, and the defense does what it always does - keep oppnents scoring to a minimum - than I can easily see Dallas beating New Orleans.

I think we should over-look the Giants and Chargers. I mean, just start preparing for the Saints now. :laugh2: ;)

Unless "Tony Turnover" makes his routine December appearance, we should run the ball on them at will.

And like it's been said, there's no comparing New England's pass rush to ours. It'll be Romo and the secondary's game to lose.

I think it's gonna play out exactly like that. All we gotta do is put Brees on his *** everything else will fall into place.

I would feel this way, except I was in the building with maybe the most classless group of people I have ever seen when we played the saints in 06.

I hate all of them. And Yes I am judging them all by the group I saw there.....Complete scumbags.

I will never pull for them in any regard ever.

And I hope the team goes back and watches the 06 game and remembers payton going onsides in the 3rd quarter with a 20 point lead or whatever it was at the time.

Screw them.

Yeah, if it weren't for that, I could probably root for them. And I might still if they make a Super Bowl, depending on who they play. (Of course I'm rooting for them to lose now while we still have a chance to catch them.)

But that '06 game still sticks in my craw.
