DMN Blog: Bobby Carpenter on the block?

While Carp isn't the most popular Cowboy (and that's an understatement) among the fanbase, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to trade him.

No, he hasn't lived up to his draft status, but he does fill several roles on the team.

He's the only real backup at LB we have, he'll probably be taking over Burnett's nickle LB job, he's a good special teams player and he's not a huge financial obligation against the cap.

Whoever says Barbie is a good special teamer clearly didn't watch the Cincinnati game.

I am not sure what you folks are seeing in Bobby's special team play...he runs down there real fast and?

I tend to agree. He's okay, but I think it's more that he's one of the better ones of a bad lot. On a team with a lot of good special teamers, he'd be just another guy.

Would anyone trade him for Osgood?

Osgood could at least return kicks, so Austin wouldn't have to.

Why would any team give up anything for Carpenter when a team IN NEED of LBs is actually trying to trade him?

If you are another GM, you gotta be an idiot to trade for him.

He's cheap so they should keep him and let him be the Nickel LB for 2009.

He sucks and is a bust why keep him? You need to take out the trash not keep it....

Who do you replace him with?

Sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't.

Either keep him on one spot and give him enough playing time to prove his worth or get rid of him one way or another.

We couldn't get a bag of chips for this clown.

I agree no one is going to cough up anything for a 1st round pick who didnt see the field his first 3 years in the league. Just label him a bust and move on.

They should of moved him a year or 2 ago when he might of had little value, now he is just camp fodder.

We need to get more athletic at the LB position anyway.

If the SOFTEST coach in the league thinks you are SOFT, what do you think the rest of the league thinks?:lmao2:

Sadly, Carpenter is one of our more athletic linebackers. Probably a distant second behind Ware. He just can't translate that to the field.

We need to get more effective at the linebacker position.

Interesting sample size you've used there.

He's no standout special teamer, but he's better than most of the people on our squad. There's no reason to let one of our better guys go unless he's being replaced by five or six guys that are far superior to him.

Barbie has pass rushing skills? LOL! I remember him getting swat like a fly the few times I saw Parcells send him out to do that. Haven't seen him do anything but special teams since. Pass rushing skills, hahahaha!

He's a poster child for addition by subtraction. Special teams over-runner + often take out teammate guy. Sub-JAG, take a chance on someone that might develop into something. Also, although not proven seems possible that he is another malcontent.

For Sale: soft, 4-3 linebacker. Hardly used. Not a big fan of contact. Asking for 7th round pick or best offer.
Like new, never used, still in plastic wrapper...

He won't be cheap if he hits playing time incentives.

Right now we simply have no LBs so he stays until we can draft some.
But there is nothing to prove he can play nickel backer. He couldn't hold the job when Burnett was out due to injury.

All keeping Carpenter does is keep his info fed to his media buddies pipeline.
