Bobby Carpenter pleased

Bobby Carpenter could not shake a poor performance in last year's preseason finale vs. Minnesota for a long time in Wade Phillips' mind.

"That won't be the case this year," Carpenter said. "I made sure of that."

Carpenter played the entire game Thursday and finished as the team leader with five tackles and a pass deflection.

"We didn't have any backups and I went in with the mindset that I was going to play the whole time and I thought I got better and I think it helped me tonight playing the whole game."

Oh for a second I thought the headline said, Bobby Carpenter released... I was about to get happy...:laugh2:

LOL me too

He is just always going backwards and afraid to hit anyone his size or bigger.

I am sure he would do a bit better in a 4-3 but not much.

It is really too bad.

Only 2 LB that impressed me last night was Tyson Smith and Tearrius George. Both of these guys looked like they wanted to play

:laugh2: :laugh2: that is funny

I thought Carp did well last night ..... he was obviously the leader when he was out there.

Yeah, got me too. My 1st thought was, "man, why didn't they trade him?"

What's even more bothersome is that he thinks he's been playing well,,,, I'll bet Jerry is shopping Carpenter around big time.

The guy works hard, but he just doesn't have the fire. He doesn't attack the ball, just just gets in position to make a play. When he does try to attack (after getting yelled at for not being aggressive) he does, but he look like a dolt doing so. What I mean by that is that he is trying (ie forcing himself) to be aggressive rather than releasing the aggression burning inside.

I think this is a case of "the light still hasn't come on yet" for Carp. At some point he has to get mad. The offensive line doesn't respect him because he is soft. People don't just respect you, you have to demand it and force them to respect you. He doesn't do that.

Ware is the same way off the field, but once Ware steps on the field he becomes a different person. Though Ware still not as rabid as I would like. You put his talent and phycial ability into a mad man like say LT was on the field, and Ware would be the clear cut DPoY every year.

Two reasons.
  1. They need an ILB and that is what he is.
  2. They have to get some type of value out of him or he is worth more to the team. (he is pretty good ST wise)

I hear over and over of how athletic Carpenter is supposed to be. I don't see it. He looks slow and clumsy out there. Maybe it is because he plays timid, so he doesn't go full speed. I guess his athleticism showed when he was testing running around cones. It just hasn't translated to the field.

He will be on the roster and due to Burnet's injury will be playing. I just hope he figures it out.

I think he did alright last night but nothing to write home about. He's still way to weak at the point of attack and seems like he's really afraid to just come up and lay a lick on anyone.

Good post and for the most part I feel the same way about Barbie.

Now I will reserve my judgment until I see the replay of last night's game but I hope he has a reason to be pleased with his play because it is in Dallas's best interest that he plays well.

Side note: I am still having trouble with his nonchalant response to an offensive lineman calling him a punk a b, the manner that he said it, and the context of the situation. I can't think of any player letting that go. I have been called many things by friend and foe alike but in the confines of the football field certain phrases would ignite a ruckus and the aforementioned is one of them. That crossed the line and he should have forcefully let him know that he is nothing to play with but instead he chalked that up as friendly banter.

Bottom line, Barbie needs to grow a pair or someone needs to slip some gunpowder in his food because if he continues his finessing ways he won’t be long for the NFL.

My own thought is Carpenter looks like a guy who is thinking too much instead of playing instinctively which allow a player to be more aggressive.

Agreed. He is either thinking too much or he is flat out afraid of contact. I thought he would make a good pro, but everything we have seen so far says otherwise. I'll keep my fingers crossed but I just don't see him becoming the player the Cowboys envisioned when they drafted him.

I don't think he or any player in the league is afraid of contact I just think he plays to stiff because he is thinking to much. Just make the read and attack. I would rather make a mistake being aggressive than to play passive
