I don't think he or any player in the league is afraid of contact I just think he plays to stiff because he is thinking to much. Just make the read and attack. I would rather make a mistake being aggressive than to play passive

I don't think he is thinking too much. Based on the previous games, he makes a good read but when he gets there he fails to instigate the action physically. It seems that he is always catching a block or letting a OL shove him to the ground or cross his face.

He is making the read but I think he just thinks too much instead of just react to what he is seeing. At OSU he moved well and attacked and did not look hesitant he does now and I think in large part because he thinking instead of reacting. No matter how any of us view this one thing is for sure his play is not acceptable at this point in time and he better get it figured out.

I keep hoping and hoping that he figures it out. It hurts us tremendously when we miss on a first round pick. However, I am afraid that if the hot sauce doesn't kick in this year, it will never will.

Ware is the same way off the field, but once Ware steps on the field he becomes a different person. Though Ware still not as rabid as I would like. You put his talent and phycial ability into a mad man like say LT was on the field, and Ware would be the clear cut DPoY every year.

I have to disagree with this. Ware doesn't dance after every play he makes like Merriman, but when you watch D-Ware, he goes full speed full throttle every single play. He should have been DPoY last year, and he's only getting better, but his intensity will never be in question in my mind, whether he yells and jumps around or just conserves his energy between plays and goes out and runs running backs down from behind from the other side of the line.

I do as well. I like Carpenter but the light needs to come on and if not this season then it just may not come on at all. I do understand the situation of being moved inside and outside then back to the inside as a disadvantage to him but he has been around long enough that we should be seeing more out of him than we have.

I think you misinterpreted what he was saying.

I think he meant that Ware is laid back off of the field but shows a great deal of intensity once he is between the hashes.

Oh for a second I thought the headline said, Bobby Carpenter released... I was about to get happy...:laugh2:

Yeah, got me too. My 1st thought was, "man, why didn't they trade him?"

nyc;2219689 said:
Two reasons.
  1. They need an ILB and that is what he is.
  2. They have to get some type of value out of him or he is worth more to the team. (he is pretty good ST wise)
nyc,
you didn't read my post. I replied to 3sportstar that I thought is said released at first and wondered why not attempt to trade him instead of giving him away.

no biggie

I know Bobby has a roll/rolls on this team, just don't lack his lack of aggressiveness.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Bobby Carpenter pleased

Bobby Carpenter could not shake a poor performance in last year's preseason finale vs. Minnesota for a long time in Wade Phillips' mind.

"That won't be the case this year," Carpenter said. "I made sure of that."

Carpenter played the entire game Thursday and finished as the team leader with five tackles and a pass deflection.

"We didn't have any backups and I went in with the mindset that I was going to play the whole time and I thought I got better and I think it helped me tonight playing the whole game."

He may have been the team leader in tackles, but they all were of the soft variety with no intensity. I didn't see a thing impressive about his performance last night, which was just more of the same.

If he is happy, that is great but also shows you he has an overinflated opinion of himself. I hope our coaching staff is not pleased with weak finesse play like he's become notorious for.

i see him get to the ball but he seems to wait until the ball carrier runs into him. He doesn't lower his shoulders and seems too soft at the point of attack. Everytime i see him get to the ball i'm bracing myself for someone to run over him.

Side note: I am still having trouble with his nonchalant response to an offensive lineman calling him a punk a b, the manner that he said it, and the context of the situation. I can't think of any player letting that go. I have been called many things by friend and foe alike but in the confines of the football field certain phrases would ignite a ruckus and the aforementioned is one of them. That crossed the line and he should have forcefully let him know that he is nothing to play with but instead he chalked that up as friendly banter.

Bottom line, Barbie needs to grow a pair or someone needs to slip some gunpowder in his food because if he continues his finessing ways he won’t be long for the NFL.

Agree 100%. I heard that and was expecting him to stop, turn around ... you know what I mean. No way I could just walk back to the huddle like nothing. Dem's fightin words, IMO.

Agreed. He is either thinking too much or he is flat out afraid of contact. I thought he would make a good pro, but everything we have seen so far says otherwise. I'll keep my fingers crossed but I just don't see him becoming the player the Cowboys envisioned when they drafted him.

I think he shuns contact. And I think it's because of the issues he had with his neck last year. Because he certainly didn't seem to shun contact or lack agression at OSU, and I watched a lot of their games.

I honestly don't think it's a "conscious" fear of contact. But when you have reservations due to deep seated fear or concerns something will go wrong, you hesitate. Which as I said in another post, I think goes back to his neck injury from last year. The only thing that removes that doubt is continued play to reassure yourself you can have the contact and be fine.

I think he reads plays fine. His reservations cause him to be a step slow and always catching the blow instead of delivering it. IMO.

The only time I think the player should walk away would be in a game and even then it would take every part of my being to do so.

Trash talk and being disrespected are two different things and that wasn't trash talk or playful banter, that was a calling out of his manhood. Doing that to most football players would result in an instant fight.

Just imagine if an OL would have said that to Haley or The Manster, they would be still scrapping up pieces after that beating.:laugh2:

Hmm, I don't recall his neck injury. That would definitely explain his unwillingness to stick his head in there.

No s***... "hey, anybody seen this guy's head around here someplace...?"

Agree about game situation. But talk about being punked. And it wasn't under the breath or a mumble. Just sitting here playing it over in my head and I'm still amazed at how he just ................... walked away.

IIRCC, some sort of nerve deal. I just suffered a pinched nerve in my neck for the first time ever about a year ago and was fortunate mine was ok with some initial meds, and mostly just rest and time. The initial pain and loss of strength is a mother, though. Not to mention working your way back - one arm substantially weaker than the other, etc.

Thinking back on the episode, (and of course over analyzing in hindsight) I do recall him kind of rolling his neck a couple of times after some contact. Might be something he's always done, or could be hangover from concerns about his neck.

For whatever reason, Bobby is too damn soft. He was one-on-one with the RB at about 12:20 of the 3rd quarter last night and I swear I've seen HS players use better technique and more meanness when making a tackle.

For some reason I thought he had a leg injury, something along the lines of a hammy.

I went back and tried to do a search and I found a mentioning of "A Injury" without any specificity. If you have time could you point me to a link that spelled it out more clearly?

One thing I can attest to is this; most back/neck injuries would make a coward out of any one. I had a slight bulging disc and even when I received a cortisone shot I was not the same player.
