Houck coming back to Cowboys?

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Wade Phillips, who briefly chatted with a handful of reporters after Jason Garrett's press conference, mentioned that the Cowboys should be hiring an offensive line coach "pretty quickly."

Will it be Hudson Houck?

"I don't want to spill the beans," Phillips said, retreating into the coaches' offices.

Houck, who is available after spending the last three seasons with the Dolphins, sure would make a lot of sense. He has a reputation as one of the best OL coaches in the business, in large part because of his work with the Cowboys from 1993-2001. He also worked on the San Diego staff with Wade Phillips for a couple years.

If I'm so pretty, why am I available?

Nice indeed. I hope that is who it is. Time to pony up again Jerry. Houck was making $850,000/yr in Miami.

Sure sounds like Houck, doesn't it? I think that's a great hire if true.

dont know why but those last few lines brings contrasting images to my head. of where erik williams and larry allen were dominating. and then when they werent after erik left and the others. and how horrible that line was. i know the salary cap had alot to do with it but man.

Oops.

Points off for using an old folksy, country saying.

But but... according to ESPN, sources around Valley Ranch are saying that Wade is hiding in the janetor's closet so Jerry won't find him, because Wade knows he is going to get fired...

The size of this offensive line caters to Hudson Houck's style... I see this as a good move, if it happens...

Erick was never the same after the car wreck(and the under-aged girl screaming rape from a window of his home ;) ) and there's also the hands to the face penalty conjoured up just for him. Reggie White used to hate that............
We had some damn good Olineman, other than Erick, leave as well. Step, Nate, Tui.........................

I can't believe Parcells didn't retain Houck. His record speaks for itself...

This is going to be a huge move, because Jason Garrett's offensive philosophy is predicated on what they ran here when Houck was coaching, with some added touches here and there.

I expect the addition of Houck, if it is, to be much better for this team than Sparano in the OL establishing consistency with the rest of what the offense is trying to do.

:laugh2:

I'd forgotten about Wade and Houck being at SD at the same time.

Someone said earlier, that Parcells has interest in Houck. I beleive Houck's contract should have expired this year. He signed a 3/yr $2.5M in 2005 at the beginning of Sabin's reign in Miami.

He got fired by Parcells... Parcells has no interest in Houck...

Like I said, it's hard to fire a man without an active contract.

He had a 3/yr $2.5M deal that started in 2005.

2005, 2006, & 2007 were the life of the contract. Therefore, you cannot fire a man that you do not actively employ. The best that Parcells could do was NOT offer him a new contract, which no plans where main to offer any contracts until his GM and HC were in place.

Your numbers must have been off.

BTW, note this from that Houck interview:

You have a way of turning average linemen into studs. What's next?

"Ronnie was averaging 5 yards a carry. The defense struggled but it's a whole team thing. It all had to fit. I'd like to go some place where they have some Pro Bowlers. I'm worn out,'' he said with a laugh.

No... He was fired, and there was an article that was specifically on Houck talking about how he didn't blame Bill for firing everybody.... the one CL just quoted...

Well, the math doesn't add up. He was hired in the 2005 season by Nick Sabin. That is a fact. He signed a $2.5M three-year contract. That also is a fact.

2005, 2006, and 2007 total three years. That article and the facts do not add up. As far as I can find, Houck did not receive a contract extention from the Dolphins anywhere between the date he was hired and now.

So, you tell me...
