The reports have been positive for sure. I like that he took his entire coaching staff to the Senior Bowl workouts. That says to the whole group that he values their input. I've never heard of a coach doing that before.

Agreed. It's also pretty obvious to me that Wade is more highly thought of in NFL circles than he is by the fans and media.

Whether he's the D-coordinator or not, he's going to get a nice check from Jerry if he comes here. He's also going to get to work with some talent, and he might even be in line to be the next D-coordinator if Wade is fired like so many suppose. So it's a pretty good situation for Capers.

What's funny, Hos is all the blog entries I read about Wade being the most popular guy at the Senior Bowl. Said it was amazing how many people knew his phone number.

With the kind of team, Dallas, it shouldn't be surprising people are trying to get on that wagon; no matter the position.

I really hope Jason decides to be the OC for the next two years. I think we have a real shot with this staff the way it is.

Yes, this is going to be a great staff if Capers comes on board.

Say what you want about Jerry, but when he wants to win he gets it done. I remember he had that look on his face at the end of the Giants game . . . The "we won't lose like this next year because we are going to fix this" look.

He cares about this team and winning.

Man, this staff is starting to look very good (even with Campo back)!!!

Amen. I wish we could just have some continuity for a couple of years with these coaches. I think it's a very good staff and we finally have enough good players to win with.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid a lot of people are right and Wade is dead if he doesn't win big next year. Maybe I'm wrong, though... I hope so.

It would depend on the circumstances with me. If we were to have an injury-ravaged year and we go 9-7 but win a wild card game and lose in the divisionals, I'd say bring him back. If we do the same with a healthy team, who knows?

Talk about NFL coaching experience on the defensive side of the ball. If we could add Capers that would be 3 dcoordinators and 2 previous NFL head coaches.

I really like the Campo hire too, Jimmy Johnson braught him here from Miami in 89. He coached plenty of successful Cowboys defense. If we could add Capers I think our coaching staff would be beyond solid.

I like how all these coaches are wanting into dallas. Obviously they see a good opprotunity to win it all with this team.

Capers: "Hello Greg, how are you?"

Ellis: "Uh. How should I be? If they hire you, will you appreciate me? I'm not sure what my role here is. Would you tell me if they hire you? I just made the Pro Bowl, but I'm worried someone is trying to trick me."

:laugh2:

Couldn't help but laugh at this.

Did any of these new hires coach STs in the past? If so, maybe they could give Read some help.

No.

But why would he need "help"?

If he needs "help", he should be replaced.

No objection here, our special teams flat-out sucked this year.

So to my understanding the new defensive coaching staff will be:

Brian Stewart
Grantham
Capers
Campo

There's certainly experience and quality in that unit, two former headcoaches who also were superb defensive coordinators at one point in their career but now are position coaches.

If Dallas doesn't boast a top 5 defense next year it will be an outrage.

I've always wondered why Bill Bates has never been considered as an NFL special teams coach.

Perhaps Joe Avezzano would come out of retiremnet for another round, his batteries should be recharged.

The thing about he and Campo is they are high energy passion and discipline guys as position coaches and I think that fairs quite nicely in contrast to Phillips, makes variety in the staff.

Not so fast on Grantham. Other than leading the 30th 'best' defense in the league after being given a 2 year contract extension...word is out that he was undermining Romeo Crennell during the season...and he had some real issues with alot of his players.

He was basically run out of Cleveland.
