I'm just curious, but outside of Grantham turning the Cleveland dline around, what have any of these "new" coaches done to inspire such confidence? Campo's best years were when we had a Hall of Fame defense (which has as much to do with players as coaches). Capers has twice failed as a head coach and his defenses were mediocre at best. And as for the legendary Hudson Houck, he was such a genius at the oline that his quarterbacks got creamed all year long last year and he did such a good job at that that Big Bill let him go! Hmmm methinks we doth blind ourselves to that which we wish not to see. But either way, I hope all these coaches do indeed live up to the hype and we all talk this time next year about how great these additions were, as we head on to win the Superbowl. :D

So to my understanding the new defensive coaching staff will be:

Brian Stewart
Grantham
Capers
Campo

There's certainly experience and quality in that unit, two former headcoaches who also were superb defensive coordinators at one point in their career but now are position coaches.

If Dallas doesn't boast a top 5 defense next year it will be an outrage.

but stop - we lost all our coaches (as i am told) because there is no growth opportunity here. jones is the GM and that's that so no one wants to work here. wasn't that the battlecry as we lost coaches?

now we're in a majority agreement we've got *better* coaches. why? why do *they* want to be somewhere that has no growth opportunity?

like i said then, 1 facet of the job isn't the only facet.

I've always wondered why Bill Bates has never been considered as an NFL special teams coach.

Perhaps Joe Avezzano would come out of retiremnet for another round, his batteries should be recharged.

The thing about he and Campo is they are high energy passion and discipline guys as position coaches and I think that fairs quite nicely in contrast to Phillips, makes variety in the staff.
Bates was an asst ST coach here for many years. He went to Jax with Del Rio and was fired after one year. I don't know that his skills as a player ever translated to coach-level.

I wonder if the "Handshake" was one of Congrats or one of how ya been.

or one of "too bad you wont be here when I am a defensive assistant Greg..."

I am surprised that everyone thinks that Wade is on the hotseat with all the former DCs being brought in.

If anyone is on the hotseat, it is Brian Stewart. He is a first time DC with 3 former winning DCs breathing down his neck.

Not to mention raising Jerry's ire during training camp when he failed to properly warm up the DL and Hatcher pulled a hammy.

Talk about being behind the 8 ball.
