Bodden might be a nice addition. But even with a bad year in Detroit (and other than Calvin and Smith, who didn't have a bad year in Detroit?), I think he'll get more money elsewhere than what we'd be willing to pay a 4th CB.

That's what I was thinking too.

I seem to recall that Bodden was pretty well-regarded last season and then for whatever reason, things didn't work out in Detroit (familiar line).

I have to say that picking up a 4th CB is one of the smallest worries on the roster right now.

Let's see, we need 2 DL, one more ILB, a SS (if not 2), better depth on the OL.

Oh yhea, and another CB.

I'm pretty sure we can pick up another CB in the draft or FA to provide some depth.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The only reservation I have about him is that New England had him in and turned him down.

I hated the Kitna traded when it was rumored to be picks. Especially because Kitna would have been cut, and there were other serviceable backup QBs on the market who wouldn't have come at the cost of a draft pick. When it was announced it came at the price of Henry (who, at best, should be our 4th CB), I became a fan of the move. I'd have been ok if the team cut Henry and added someone else. So essentially, we swapped some garbage with the Lions. OK with that.

Brooking - eh. One of my closest friends is a Falcons game... I've watched plenty of Falcons games the past 4 years. Especially, the last 2. And Brooking looked..... Well, let's just hope we draft an ILB and he is ready from day 1. Because this is, at best, treading water. Brooking may be bigger than Zach, but he is not good in coverage. Now we have 2 ILBs that are probably starters, who cannot cover. And if Ellis starts another year, this is a slow LB core that cannot cover.

Signing Springs, for the right price, I'd like. Veteran CB with some versatility. Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Springs, Ball - that's pretty good depth.

To me that's very fair.
Writing articles like we see in the media all too often is not.

I suspect Brooking is a straight-line swap for Zach simply because Wade likes Brooking more.

He is being counted against the cap as a 2 down player. I doubt seriously he plays on 3rd and longs here.

I absolutely agree we need more speed if we are going to man cover everyone and blitz. But we have that at the top 3 CBs for sure. We need a safety with real speed and then at least one Burnett type backer.

I really just wish we had Darren Woodson. That guy would solve a lot of issues imho.

I am almost certain Kitna will toss picks here. That's his deal and always has been. But he also completes lots of passes and not just on check downs. He needs the defenses help but he will at least move the ball and give us a chance to score points.

My hope is neither guy is considered much of a factor in our 2009 success when it is all said and done.

Oh, good grief. Just look at other teams' depth charts at cornerback and compare it to the Cowboys.

Allan Ball is being over looked. They could add a late rounder, but that's about it.

If Springs is signed for safety, he gives you versatility.

You need three really good ones, and Ball doesn't have to be a star.

Yeah, but it seems like New England views cornerbacks differently than the rest of the league.

Almost as less of a priority if you ask me.

Like they feel they can 'coach them up' where other teams can't.

And as a result, they seem to pay less than going rate.

Um, anybody would look good in comparison to BJ. Even Grossman or Boller. We're setting the bar awfully low here. Just because Kitna has a little more left in his tank than BJ doesn't mean he makes sense for the Cowboys. There I go with that darn "bias" again.

Oh give me a break. If we brought in Rosenfels for a backup you would still find an excuse to whine. Its not as if we traded for Alex Smith, Mike Stanton or Tyler Thigpen. If you look at who the other backup QBs actually are then you quickly realize that Kitna is one of the best of them.

If Carpenter plays at the point of attack and in coverage like he did in 2006 then our problems are solved.

I think that's a big stretch right there.

Right or wrong, this team seems to have absolutely no faith in him.

I think if they can't get anything they should just cut him and let him try to have a career alsewhere.

Shawn Springs would be the best dime-back in the league.

From what I hear there is a decent chance we get him. Would be a great move, and would hopefully shut up all the haters that are running rampant on this board.

Hope we can get Springs signed to a "Brooking" type contract. Can see it now, Jerry uses Shawn to endorse Cowboy Springs Bottled Water.
