DMN Blog: Cory Procter will officially be a Cowboy next season

I guess it's true. His roster picture has been updated on the DC website.

I'm pretty sure McMahon is incorrect. This doesn't guarantee Proctor will be a Cowboy next season. I'm almost positive since Proctor was a restrictive free agent, the Cowboys could cut ties at any point and not have it count against the salary cap. Adam? lol

I don't think his comment had anything to do with that.

I think it was a sly way of saying that no one in their right mind would give up a 2nd rounder for Proctor once we made the tender.

I love that they comment on his versatility. Are you still versatile if you're awful at any position you play? If I come into the league as a WR, but I can play TE in a pinch but never block or catch a thing, and I can play FB in a pinch but fumble every time I tough the ball in addition to being a terrible blocker, am I valuable for my versatility?

Needed to simulate the jail break drill in practice? :lmao2:

Because he knows 3 positions inside and out and will most likely be the back up center.

If Gurode goes down than we have nobody who knows how to make the line calls.

IMO we will draft a center this year at some point and start developing that person as the backup.

I think Holland starts a LG, Kosier backs up both guard positions, and Proctor is 3rd string guard and 2nd string center.

It doesn't do any good to make line calls when you get trucked, run around, and don't come out of your stance.

bbgun is right. This guy nearly got Romo killed multiiple times last year. He got exposed at center in 2007. He can't anchor.

Split chin at Cleveland/ was some of Proctor's work

Hurt back agianst Giants/ Ditto

That's just two examples.

I'd rather have a backup center who could anchor, than someone who has "experience".

Proctor has experience all right. He has the experience of getting Romo killed. You might as well put Casper the Ghost in the game. Defensive players go right through Proctor, too.

He was dreadful. He's gotta be somebody's pet project for them to keep him around. He's just not an NFL lineman.

If we don't draft anyone that would likely be the lineup - except I expect Kosier beats out Holland.

People here act like Proctor was our biggest problem on the OL. Fact is that the two guys next to him took some serious steps backward and he isn't to blame for all of their shortcomings.

Gurode had to think about the revolving door/door mat on every snap.

Proctor let Shawn Rodgers run right by him, and he stood there and watched.

Romo got crushed and planted. Romo was real lucky on that play. He could have been hurt bad.

There is a reason the Cowboys are looking at T.J. Lang.

the guy isnt guaranteed a roster spot...aned even if he does make the roster the odds of him ever seeing the field in anything other than the preseason games are slim and none

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Once the Cowboys put the second-round tender on restricted free agent OL Cory Procter, there was never any question that he'd return to Valley Ranch next season. He made it official today by signing the one-year, $1.545 million contract.

Procter struggled at times when forced into starting duty because of LG Kyle Kosier's foot injury last season, but his versatility makes him a valuable backup. He filled in for Andre Gurode at center the last two games of the 2007 season and can play either guard spot.

Plus, I'm sure Jerry Jones didn't want to break up Free Reign, the rock band that features Procter on the drums, RT Marc Colombo as the lead singer and RG Leonard "Bigg" Davis on the bass. Calvin "Lucky" Watkins and I are eagerly anticipating seeing Free Reign at the Granada tomorrow night and will post a review of the show on this here blog over the weekend.
I did not deserve this. I literally did nothing wrong to deserve this.

The proctologist must have pictures of Jerruh with a goat or something. There is no other logical alternative.
