The Cowboys have wasted little time in finding a replacement for defensive line coach Todd Grantham.
Fired Monday as Miami’s defensive coordinator, Paul Pasqualoni will take over the Cowboys defensive line next season but he is on hand at Valley Ranch already.
It will be the third position group Pasqualoni has coached for the Cowboys. He was the tight ends coach in 2005 and the linebackers coach in 2006-07. When Tony Sparano left the Cowboys following the 2007 season, Pasqualoni departed to be the Dolphins defensive coordinator.
Miami’s defense fell to No. 22 in 2009 after finishing 15th in 2008 when it won the AFC East title. The Dolphins allowed 24.4 points per game in ’09 after allowing 19.8 the previous year.
Known as an incredibly detailed coach, Pasqualoni inherits a good group, led by All-Pro nose tackle Jay Ratliff. Marcus Spears, Stephen Bowen and Jason Hatcher have also become big contributors the last few seasons and the Cowboys hit on free-agent pickup Igor Olshansky. Spears, Bowen and Hatcher are scheduled to be restricted free agents after the season with the unresolved collective bargaining agreement.
