Phillips said he mentioned Pasqualoni's availability to Jerry Jones early in Thursday's practice and by the end of the workout Jones had the deal done.

"I mean he gets things done," Phillips said of the owner and GM.

Pasqualoni returns to the Cowboys where he coached tight ends in 2005 and linebackers in 2006-07. He spent the last two years as Miami's defensive coordinator.

....

Not to mention by acting quickly, the Cowboys took Pasqualoni away from the New York Giants. He had talked with Tom Coughlin on Monday and Tuesday about joining the Giants staff.

Two interesting notes there. I like the fact that Wade was the one that wanted him and Jerry went out and made it happen, as opposed to Jerry wanting him and Wade consenting.

Love the move. When he was fired the other day, I was wondering if there was any way we could squeeze him onto our staff. I don't like him as a potential defensive coordinator candidate or a guy to move up the ladder, but I think he's proven to be a pretty darn good position coach in previous capacities here.

Good move and I was thinking the same thing. When I saw Todd was leaving, it made sense to bring him back. Maybe Todd got caught trying to steal Wade's job and they forced him out.:)

Jersey and (just to be fair to you Yankees) Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi say "Hello"

I've never seen worse roads than I have in Louisiana and this was before Katrina.

But the lack of mentioning of Delaware is astounding.

Georgia is just boring.

I wonder if Pasqualoni is actually our back-up plan for LB coach. Herring just interviewed for the DC job at Okie St, and it seems that he's been looking to head back to the college ranks.

This just might be a precursor to another move, but at least it keeps somewhat of a continuity on defense if we lose two defensive coaches.

Eww... Just recently? Hope he stays. Love that guy.

Pasqualoni Traveling To Minnesota With Team
Posted by nickeatman at 1/15/2010 9:33 AM CST on truebluefanclub.com
One day before the Cowboys will travel to Minnesota for Sunday’s NFC Divisional playoff game, a few changes are taking place on the coaching staff.

Defensive line coach Todd Grantham, who has been here for two seasons, has accepted the defensive coordinator position at the University of Georgia. However, head coach Wade Phillips said Friday that Grantham will remain with the

team until the Cowboys’ season is over.

“He’ll finish the season with us and then go to Georgia,” Phillips said. “It’s been great to have Todd. He’s contributed a tremendous amount to the defense. I knew that he would be a coordinator pretty quickly, or even a head coach. He’s got all of those qualities. But he’ll finish up strong here.”

But the Cowboys didn’t go very long without a replacement. In fact, Phillips said he told Jerry Jones before Thursday’s practice that former assistant coach Paul Pasqualoni was available after being fired by the Dolphins earlier this week.
About 15 minutes later, Pasqualoni was back with the Cowboys. “The great thing about having Jerry as the head coach, I talked to Jerry and told him Paul was out there and boom, it was done,” Phillips recalled. “Before practice was over, Paul Pasqualoni had been hired. He is here today and will help us in the transition and will take Todd’s place next year.”

Pasqualoni, who coached here three seasons as tight ends coach (2005) and linebackers (2006-07), and recently fired by the Dolphins after two years as defensive coordinator, is expected to rejoin the staff as early as this week. Pasqualoni will travel with the team to Minnesota this weekend, helping out in some capacity. Pasqualoni, a head coach at Syracuse for 14 years, joined Bill Parcells’ staff, but stayed one more year to coach under Wade Phillips. Pasqualoni was among the several coaches who flocked to Miami to join Parcells, Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano in Miami.

As for Grantham, he came along in 2008 to coach the defensive line, where he’s helped Jay Ratliff to two straight Pro Bowl appearances and an All-Pro selection this year. "I would like to thank Coach Mark Richt and Damon Evans for the opportunity for myself and my family to be part of the University of Georgia community," Grantham said in an issued statement.

"I'm very excited about being part of a staff that will work tremendously hard to return Georgia football to one of the premier teams in the SEC. To the fans and boosters of the University of Georgia, I understand the passion and standard of excellence expected. I look forward to developing an aggressive, physical, attacking style defense that offenses will not look forward to playing against."

Wow, didn't know that they were being so obvious about Jerry's coaching responsibilities. ;)

This is really good that he is already with us. A fresh perspective of things could come in really handy.

Eatman changed Jerry's title from Head Coach back to GM - I wonder if it was a misquote or a correction.

Cowboys hire Pasqualoni to coach D-line

January, 15, 2010 Jan 153:59PM ET

By Matt Mosley

The Cowboys have hired a familiar face to replace defensive line coach Todd Grantham, who has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Georgia. Owner Jerry Jones and coach Wade Phillips didn't waste any time in hiring former Cowboys assistant Paul Pasqualoni as the defensive line coach.

Pasqualoni coached tight ends and linebackers from 2005-07 before joining Tony Sparano in Miami. Pasqualoni was fired as the Dolphins' defensive coordinator earlier this week in a move that surprised a lot of coaches around the league. Bill Parcells, the executive vice president of football operations for the Dolphins, had been a huge supporter of Pasqualoni's, but folks I talked to Thursday believed that Parcells was hoping to replace Pasqualoni with his old pal Al Groh, who was recently fired as the head coach at Virginia. Groh interviewed with the Dolphins on Wednesday but he decided to become the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech today. Pretty interesting quote from Groh regarding his relationship with Parcells:

"Bill's not the coach," Groh said. "And the coach is the person you work with on a daily basis. Bill is very disciplined as he explained it to me to be non-intrusive in that process and let the coach coach the way he wants to, just as Bill always wanted it to be when he was the coach. ... There was just a set of criteria there that I thought that Paul's program and Georgia Tech met very well."

Sounds like Groh wanted no part of Tony Sparano, which is odd since Sparano served under Groh's pals Tom Coughlin and Parcells and is highly regarded in the league. Grantham will remain with the Cowboys until the end of this season.

I betcha the people probably thought the same away about you. Good people typically make good places, not the other way around.

Too true. Its all about what you make it. You want it to be yucky, then thats what its going to be ;).

Misquote. He definitely said "general manager and owner" at the PC.
