DMN Blog: Cowboys don't think any injuries are serious

They messed up Newmans original groin injury last season and sent him back to play and he then got the hernia because of it. Felix Jones first diagnosis was wrong as well and we all saw what happened soon after we went back to play/ I think it is quite fair to question the CURRENT trainors and medical staff.

Same here. These guys are generally well-regarded, but the killer IMO was when Felix blew out his toe rehabbing from a routine hamstring pull.

Meh, so far the injuries have been to areas where we enjoy a lot of depth. Once the injuries hit the O-Line, D-Line, or WRs, I'll start to worry.

So the same medical staff that kept the majority of the team healthy (including under Parcells) aside from last year's rash of injuries is now incompetent?

I believe it was more of Parcells making them "man-up" and play through it. Mess up once and it's a mistake, mess up twice, three times and yes your incompetent.

Jones
Kosier
Newman

are examples of where the medical staff was incompetent and injuries or rehab schedules were mis-diagnosed and the players missed more time because of it.

No guarantee on any player making it 16 games. Blaming the medical staff for injuries to players is like blaming the automaker because got a speeding ticket. :laugh2:

But Newman wasn't caught speeding. He's in for repairs again. Isn't there a "lemon" law in Texas?

We keep dodging bullets with these minor injuries. Lets hope that continues.

Be careful, you might get stereotyped as having pom poms in your hand for daring to ask a pertinent question in the middle of a ***** session.

You have to remember, negative view = realistic and positive view = fanboyism, no exceptions.

How is Felix hurting his toe while rehabbing his hamstring the medical staff's fault? That is on the trainers.

Can't talk bad about Newman. He's the best ever!

They were the same way about Roy Williams the safety.

You're comparing a corner that has shut down top 5 receivers weekly to a safety that lost his drive after 2005?

Now I'm not in love with Newman nor an active defender for him, but that's just ********.

I think they are negative because their shorts bunch up in the crack of their trash. That's the realistic part of that crap.

Four key Cowboys -- Terence Newman (groin), Mike Jenkins (ankle), Felix Jones (toe) and Martellus Bennett (ankle) -- are nursing injuries that the team considers minor.

Wade Phillips wasn't heavy on the details during his daily press conference, but he remains optimistic that none of the injuries will affect the players' performances this season.

Newman, who missed regular season time due to camp injuries the last two years, has basically been ruled out of Thursday's preseason opener in Oakland. Phillips said the hope is that Newman is completely healthy by then, but they'll be cautious with the veteran cornerback.

Phillips said Jenkins is "obviously a lot better" two days after being carted off the field. But Jenkins' status for the preseason opener is in doubt.

Jones had complained of stiffness in his left big toe four or five days ago, Phillips said, but the team's medical and athletic training staff consider that typical for a player coming off that surgery.

Bennett twisted his knee this morning, but he tweeted minutes ago that he's "good.

Whew! As long as Bennett tweeted, we're good.

Dallas fan base in general is a unique animal because we are spoiled, 5 championships will tend to do that. Many are ill suited for the one-step forward, one-step backwards reality of today's NFL. Collectively, we are products of the dynasty era of football and it becomes difficult to come to grips with having mediocre talent behind starters instead of the Lett(s) and Woodson(s) coming off the bench. In our world it sux unless it is a championship, just look at Danny White and the Dandy Don. If they played for the Saints they would be praised as heroes, see Archie Manning for example, but for the boys most give them the meh treatment.

IMO, this is what drives our fan base to be overly cynical. The sad part is that finding misery in everything often leads to a miserable existence. Personally, I rather remain positive because I feel that positive people tend to manifest positive outcomes, life is too short to see everything in a negative light. Just my $0.02.

Note: I think I found the topic for my dissertation for my PhD, lol.

They don't want teams to know how they will use Felix and Martellus on offense until the real games. They also don't want teams to see their secondary packages as well. The only player I consider really knicked up is Jenkins.

Not concerned about these "precautionary" measures. I'm more concerned on Garrett adjusting to the opposition adjusting to his offensive schemes by week 6 - 8 and on.

It's a guarantee that Newman will not play 16 games this year. I have no faith in the Cowboys medical personnel to correctly diagnosis an injury. They should have been part of the off-season clearing house.

you guys crack me up.
you talk as if medicine is black and white, i have news for you, there is a lot of grey area there.

news flash: the medical staff (even the best in the world) many times does not know EXACTLY what is wrong and the incorrect diagnosis can be made, in additon, different people respond differently to the same injury, and so on and so forth. there are a lot of moving parts and a lot of variables that cannot be always be accounted for.

anybody who believes that a smart businessman like JJ will not hire the best available to keep his investment in the best shape possible and will not want to get the best advice and care is completely out of touch with reality.

so, bottom line, it is OK to worry and hope that our players stay healthy but to blame the medical staff or JJ for their injuries is a little crazy.

Is an understatement.

If they have to start wheeling players off on carts I'll be concerned with those injuries thus far we are seeing minor injuries people around here need to get a grip. This is football these injuries will happen and there is nothing anyone can do about them.
