Four key Cowboys -- Terence Newman (groin), Mike Jenkins (ankle), Felix Jones (toe) and Martellus Bennett (ankle) -- are nursing injuries that the team considers minor.

Wade Phillips wasn't heavy on the details during his daily press conference, but he remains optimistic that none of the injuries will affect the players' performances this season.

Newman, who missed regular season time due to camp injuries the last two years, has basically been ruled out of Thursday's preseason opener in Oakland. Phillips said the hope is that Newman is completely healthy by then, but they'll be cautious with the veteran cornerback.

Phillips said Jenkins is "obviously a lot better" two days after being carted off the field. But Jenkins' status for the preseason opener is in doubt.

Jones had complained of stiffness in his left big toe four or five days ago, Phillips said, but the team's medical and athletic training staff consider that typical for a player coming off that surgery.

Bennett twisted his knee this morning, but he tweeted minutes ago that he's "good.

I will believe it when I see them all on the field during the season opener.

It's a guarantee that Newman will not play 16 games this year. I have no faith in the Cowboys medical personnel to correctly diagnosis an injury. They should have been part of the off-season clearing house.

With all of these injuries it makes you wonder how hard do people want camp to be? With the camp we're running now we already have a ton on people getting hurt.

I'm skeptical of any medical reports from Wade Phillips, M.D.

Can't talk bad about Newman. He's the best ever!

They were the same way about Roy Williams the safety.

No guarantee on any player making it 16 games. Blaming the medical staff for injuries to players is like blaming the automaker because got a speeding ticket. :laugh2:

So the same medical staff that kept the majority of the team healthy (including under Parcells) aside from last year's rash of injuries is now incompetent?

They messed up Newmans original groin injury last season and sent him back to play and he then got the hernia because of it. Felix Jones first diagnosis was wrong as well and we all saw what happened soon after we went back to play/ I think it is quite fair to question the CURRENT trainors and medical staff.

Be careful, you might get stereotyped as having pom poms in your hand for daring to ask a pertinent question in the middle of a ***** session.

Don't forget Kosier's yo-yo season. There's bad luck, and then there's bad decision-making.
