With Austin not getting on the field - again - because of injury, what is Plan B if this kid can't play?

Crayton thrills you that much, huh?

I can only speak for myself, but I think it would behoove the team to actually have a passing game this next year.

Wow, I feel so much better. Kinda like finding out you don't have prostate cancer, but just ate too much cheese.

Thanks, man!!!

I kind of like the idea of adding Amani Toomer. I have always respected him. Booker might be the 2nd name on that list for me.

Toomer is going to help someone this year. The issue is likely more how much he wants to do so.

I'll second that.

I see this year's receiving group becoming 2009's achilles' heel.

Just like lack of quarterback depth was last year.

Let's see, it cost you nothing to bring in matt Jones, he wouldn't be guaranteed a roster spot, ofcource the cowboys would have to an extensiive background check to see if he's following the leagues guidelines set forth for him.

I don't understand some people on here that are flat out against it, because he has an addiction...... Where was the outcry when Michael Irvin was doing drugs in his day, I sense a double standard..... Any Texas ranger fans here, for those who aren't, have you heard of Josh Hamilton, he's a recovering addict, and where is he now, the rangers didn't give up on him, got him the help he needed, and what a great story he's tuned out to be....

Jones isn't a cancer in the locker room, he knows he doesn't have any more chances left, if it doesn't work out, cut him in camp, it costs you nothing, but if he shows that he can turn his life around, then we have another deep threat with experience, the guy has speed, he isn't slow.

Stanback and Austin have shown time and time again that they can't even stay healthy, Both are now injured, and it's only OTA's, after them, where's the speed receiver on this team, there isn't one..... I have no faith that Miles Austin will even last the season without injury, and Stanback, I don't know if he even makes the team.....

And I could careless about the 4th and long nonsense, who ever wins that garbage of a show, won't last three weeks in camp....

So It cost you nothing to give Matt Jones a look, that's all it would be, this team needs another speed receiver that can stretch the defense. I'd rather make a mistake on a player with an addition, than a Cancer, like we put up with for three years with T.O and his diminishing skills...or even talk about bringing the other fool, make it rain Pac-rat back...there's a guy who has had way too many chances....

This organization took a chance on Marc Columbo, how has that worked out, his issue was a serious knee injury, every team counted him out.... He is one of my favorite guys on this team, he's the leader on this O-line and is tough as nails with a nasty streak....

I can't even see how you would classify it as an addiction.

To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't repeatedly been caught doing cocaine, just one time.

It's certainly possible he had done it before, but I don't remember reading about him failing any league-imposed drug tests.

So for all we know, he tried it once, got caught doing it, and has relaized his mistake and cleaned up his act.

From an on-field perspective, it sure seemed to be a wake-up call for him as he had by far his best season.

In my opinion, signing him to a 'last chance' contract with all leverage to the team makes to much sense not to pursue.

I'm also curious how many receivers on the free agent list caught 65 passes last season.

i understand what your saying, and as i posted, im iffy on matt jones, and possibly he could run the razorback option too, but at same time, if you sign him, and he gets in troulbe you can lose a draft pick as well as money.

do you want to risk a 3rd or 4th round pick if matt jones gets in trouble?

From who?

Some unsubstantiated rumor about Goodell penalizing teams?

I'll believe it when I see it.

How can he penalize a team for signing a player he himself deemed eligible to play?

That's right, he can't.

That's why it hasn't happened, and that's why it won't happen either.

Goodell has stated that if teams don't police themselves from continuing to sign players that continue to get in trouble off the field, he'll either fine the teams or take draft picks away....Jerry has one strike against him by signing Pac-rat, who got in trouble and ws suspended.

San Fran lost a fifth rounder and had their thrid round pick swapped with the bears two years ago for contacting another players agent while still under contract with another team during the season....

Goodells job is to protect the NFL shield and the brand, the league is run by big money, if the league is perceived as a gangster league full of thugs and criminals, the league loses large revenues by all the negative attention..

I would take Plaxico before I would take MJ. Honestly, at least you know he will show up against the Giants.

I also don't see Hurd having much higher of a ceiling than what we have already seen. If he is in the game, the blitz will be coming.

Plaxico will be playing in a different league this year,
the NY prison league, there will be jail time for him...New York has a no tollerance public law for gun crimes, some jail time is mandatory

Here again are the list of Free Agent WRs per NFL.com. I might be blind but it doesn't look to me like Matt Jones is the only option there is.

Drew Bennett
Drew Carter

Matt Jones
Brandon Lloyd
Todd Lowber
Jerry Porter
Amani Toomer
Reggie Williams

good post as usual hostile, i would be interested in the ones listed above
im iffy on matt jones, just think he is a knucklehead, we dont need any more knuckleheads

The ones in bold... are all a part of the All-Knucklehead team... Porter is still waiting approval.

I would take all of the emboldened players before I took Matt Jones. I can't believe people would be willing to bring in a guy who arguably had a worse criminal scandal than Pacman or Plaxico.

Oh, but wait, he's not "thuggish" so he gets a pass from Roger "Preferential Treatment" Gooddell.

Interesting. I would seperate your choices and put them in the following groups:

All-Injury Team:
Drew Bennett
DJ Hackett
Marvin Harrison
Joe Jurevicius

All-Weed Head Team:
Koren Robinson (founder and president)

All-Drug Connected team:
Brandon Lloyd (not sure if he has done any or not, but here is a great line from his rap album:“Come to my crib, I’ll show you how to break down a quarter and a pound.”)
Koren Robinson
Matt Jones (not on your list)

All-Oldie, but still goodie Team:

Amani Toomer
Marvin Harrison (still awaiting approval)
Ike Hilliard

All-Has been or One year wonder Team:
Dante Hall
Brandon Lloyd
Drew Bennett
Marty Booker
Marvin Harrison (still awaiting approval)

Exactly. I honestly cannot understand the lunacy behind the thinking that Matt Jones is a better "candidate" to don the Cowboys uniform than Pacman Jones. I guess cocaine is more acceptable than alchohol.

Wow.
