DMN Blog: Cowboys turned down major trade offer

Here's my possibilities:

1)Spencer and a pick for Merriman swap.
2)Miles Austin for a 2nd round pick.
3)Martellus for a 2nd round pick.

If in fact we could get a 2nd rounder for Martellus and we passed then we really failed on that.

I cannot wait till the details surface.

Once again:

I'm using the SAME reasoning you peanut gallary geniuses use when you declare the Roy Williams trade a " bust ". Right from the hip, using " right now " results, without any future consideration or without surrounding factors.

Had the Cowboys kept those picks, NOT ONE of those players would be starting for the Cowboys right now NOR have made any bigger impact than Roy Williams.

Not ONE.
I don't know. I'm thinking Mike Wallace's 16 catches for 246 yards would have helped us. He was picked at #84, which if we had kept #82 we could have grabbed him. He's managed to become the 3rd receiver for the defending champions.

Oh wait, it said Jerry said "a player was offered that could of made a now impact"

Who was it!!?

Peppers!? I wonder if it was a Martellus and pick for Peppers.

My guess is Scandrick or Bennett. It has probably been covered on one of the next 8 pages but I really dont feel like reading all that...

I think Scandrick or Jenkins is probably a good bet.

He walked right in to that one.

In 3 or 4 years, we'll know just how well that deal worked out. Til then, it is all speculation.

He's had no more impact than Roy Williams has had, and he's STILL would not be a #1 receiver.

Not to mention the fact that we passed on him in the 2nd AND 3rd round with the picks we had anyways, which tells me we wouldn't have drafted him regardless if we traded for Roy or not.

Probably Scandrick...he could start on any team at either CB spot....that's HUGE!

If I was a GM on a bad or mediocre team, I'd trade my 2nd rounder.

If I was GM of the Colts, Pats or Steelers etc...I'd trade my 1st.

But I'm bold like that....:)

problem is..Jerry said it was a player that we would get in return, that would help us

Exactly. It was a player.

Your first thought is Merriman or Peppers but why would Jerry trade for a player and give up young talent for a player that's not going to resigned by their teams after this year anyway. Their both FA and not wanted by their own teams.

I was going by this quote stated earlier in the thread...

While he wouldn’t name the player or inquiring team, Jones did confirm that the Cowboys fielded a considerable offer Tuesday before the trade deadlines for one of their younger players. Jones said it was not a running back, but a player he felt the Cowboys needed to keep “right now.”

I would give draft picks for Scandrick ...not saying that was part of the deal.

Wonder if the Jets wanted Ratliff now that Kris Jenkins is out for the year.

Rat seems like a player that Rex would slobber over.

MacMahon said we were first offered a pick but could've pushed for a player.

He indicated that the Cowboys were offered at least one premium draft pick for the player. He also hinted that the Cowboys could have pushed for a player who could contribute this season.

I bet the Ravens offered a 2nd for Miles Austin. Makes a ton of sense.

Only players (by position) that could help, IMO, would be a promising tackle, safety, or pass rusher.

Ofcourse if we only knew the team we could probably figure out the player involved.

Most likely someone that is still in contention, maybe it's more likely to be an AFC Team wanting a position on our Roster with Depth.

If it was for Scandrick who neeeds DBs in the AFC that is still in contention for a Play-Off Birth?

Crayton demoted as punt returner and starting w.r. We have Hurd and a young Ogletree. Wonder if someone offered us a Young wide as a throw in and a 4th or 5th for Crayton? Would seem to make sence IMO.
