They look almost identical to Canty's to me.

Igor - 179 tackles with 11 sacks

Canty - 148 tackles with 10 sacks

Igor has played one additional year. They look like the same player to me.

Looks like an upgrade to me.... Sign Igor today.:)

Igor's problem is that he is often injured. But if he comes cheap, it would be a GREAT signing.

It would allow Cowboys greater draft flexibility, curbing their need to reach for a player b/c it is a position of need.

Makes no sense to compare tackle stats. Those aren't official and every team counts them differently - especially when counting tackles on plays where the tackle was made by more than one player.

Those stats came from NFL.com. I agree stats aren't a perfect way to judge but Igor and Canty have now played multiple years in Phillips' D and have put up similar stats. Sorry, but I don't know of any better way to compare the players.

Sure -- he's more of a pass rusher. But he really doesn't do that very well either is what I was saying.

I wouldn't say he struggles there

besides, this is a young guy who is finally getting some good coaching from Gratham, I remember the report after we hired him to coach the Dline, that Kacy Rogers, the guy who used to coach the Dline, wasn't a very good teacher

back to Olshanky, this is a guy who is a vet, and knows the D, knows Wade and probably respects him, if he comes cheaper than Canty, I don't see the downside, even if he isn't exactly a world-beater

Spears had a nice season last year at DE. At least that is the opinion of folks who actually watch the games and don't just look at stat lines.

I have not missed a Cowboys game in 5 years...called NFL Sunday ticket and flying to Cowboys stadium to see games in person...be careful what you say to people you know nothing about.

My opinion of Spears is what I've seen each and every game and many times re-watching games several times per week.

So why isn't SD making a bid to get him back?

And yet Hatcher regressed under Grantham, and showed better pass rush potential under Rogers. Also, Rogers now with Miami has TWO rooks at DE, and they looked very good.

Grantham is overrated and has done nothing of substance in the League. Which Houston or Cleveland players has he developed to be more than JAGs?

And as I noted, tackles are not an official NFL stat, they simply take what is credited at the stadium, which will differ.

You can't use tackles to compare players across teams as the criteria for a tackle differs

But the deal is that Spears played much better last year and Canty actually regressed some.

Be that as it may, your opinion that Spears sucks at DE so we should move him to NT remains absurd.

BTW -- just b/c you watch it don't mean you know what you are looking for.

Hatcher regressed? How do you know? And Grantham hasn't done anything of substance? Your serious? His only bad year was his last year as DC with Cleveland, when the whole organization was in chaos and he had garbage on his defensive line. The very next year the Browns went out and got Rodgers...

I would much rather have Igor and Rat as DE's then having Spears. I personally feel Rat is a much better DE then Spears. I also feel like Spears is not the same pass rusher he was at LSU...no where close. He is good against the run, but many of his sack stats are because the QB was flushed to him...not because he is a good pass rusher. He can be decent at NT, not convinced he would be that good there either.

I'm not down on Spears as much as I'd prefer Igor and Rat at ends...that's all.

I never said Spears sucks...I said I prefer Igor and Rat over Spears at DE. Spears is a solid DE nothing more.

How much football have you played, watched and COACHED???

At the Pro level? About as much as you I expect.

Funny that someone who makes these claims would suggest a wholesale reordering of our D-line and can't even ID what side Igor played in SD.

You can feel one way, but coaches who actually do this stuff for a LIVING feel differently.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Igor Olshansky joining the cowboys this season?

12:24 Todd Archer: He's here visiting, as we wrote on the blog. I think it can happen, but I'm not sure. His agents,. Bruce and Rayn Tollner, also represent Leonard Davis and they came together pretty easily on a deal there. The Cowboys have room for the right deal but nothing too big. He'd be a good fit.

Marcus Spears is vastly underrated on this board. He is way better than Canty, way better.
He was second on the team in TFL the last 2 years and third this year on QB PRESSURES.
