Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, is among the 131 players, coaches and contributors who make up the preliminary list of nominees for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame that was announced Saturday.

As many of you know, Rick Gosselin is the Dallas presenter for the Hall of Fame and I'd like to make a suggestion for his speech to the fellow voters the day before the Super Bowl: "Ladies and gentlemen, Emmitt Smith." And then he sits down.

The list will be whittled down to 25 by Nov. 27 and the final 15 modern-era finalists will be announced Jan. 7, 2010.

In addition to Smith, Darren Woodson, Jimmy Johnson, Gil Brandt, Danny White, Herschel Walker, Charles Haley, Too Tall Jones, Dan Reeves and Eddie George are among the ex-Cowboys on the list. Wade Phillips' dad, Bum, is also under consideration.

For the full list, go to the jump.

What interests me most between now and Emmitt Smith's enshrinement speech next year will be finding out just how many media representatives, current/ex-players and/or fans will either imply or outright state that he does not deserve first-ballot induction. Insane? Sure, without a doubt, but he's an ex-Cowboy so it will happen. Bank on it.

IMO, these players deserve to be in the hall:

Charles Haley
Ed "Too Tall" Jones
Emmitt Smith
Danny White
Darren Woodson

As do these two men:

Gil Brandt
Jimmy Johnson

Anytime I hear the words "Hall-of-Fame" I get frustrated because I cannot believe that "Too Tall" isn't already a member of the hall.

Geez, come on, I am sometimes for Media conspiracy or Media hates Cowboys, but that is just outright silly. Sure there might be some like Skip Baleless type of idiots who might say that, but heck no way, any legitimate NFL writer deny Emmit Smith. No Way, no how. His stats, rings, MVP's just make it moot.

Anyone trying to say Emmit is not first ballot HOF will be laughed out and probably called an idiot. Aikman or Irvin, you probably could had point, but Emmit, you just dont have a leg to stand on to question his credentials for HOF.

My guess at the Class of 2010.

Emmitt Smith
Jerry Rice
Paul Tagliabue
Shannon Sharpe

I would say Cris Carter and/or Andre Reed, but not the same year as Rice.

Ira Miller, the HOF voter for 49ers has stated he would never vote yes for any Dallas Cowboy. That was reported several years ago by John McLain the Houston HOF voter.

I can't understand why idiocy like that is tolerated. If Miller did say that then he should not be permitted the power of voting on those who go in to the Hall.

With such obvious bias, he shouldn't have a vote then. That's just stupid.

I sent the link about it to the Hall. Nothing was doen.

Same with Vic Caruso the NY writer who said he would not vote for anyone he did not consider better than Harry Carson until Harry Carson was inducted.

It shouldn't be about personal politics. It is wrong that the writers have a voice and the HOF members have none.

Jeremy Green of Detroit is also a piece of work. He challenged one former member of this forum to a fist fight via e-mail. The guy he challenged to a fight was a Naval Officer who was in the Persian Gulf at the time.

I don't think Tags makes it in this year. Simply because of the looming CBA issues.

I actually don't have a problem with this. Saying since "X" player isn't in the hall of fame I refuse to vote fo players who aren't better than "X" player, isn't that big a deal.

 You're being very naive if you believe that Emmitt Smith will receive universal acceptance as a Hall of Famer.

Hos, I thought that a Pittsburgh voter basically said the same thing. Do you recall that, or am I thinking of that Niners voter?
