DMN Blog: Emmitt Smith's record in jeopardy

I doubt Emmitt is losing sleep over this.
I doubt it. However, even though I'm an Emmitt fan, I can't ever recall a RB (plenty of WRs) that paid more attention to personal stats. That is at least part (not all) of the reason he went to Arizona.

Having said that, I do think personal goals are great if they mesh with the team's goals--which his usually did.

Randy White was a great player.

But, not to sound blasphemous, but he was no Walter Payton.

No but Ted Albrecht was no Tony Dorsett either (he was the Bears first pick in 1977).

I'll take Randy White and Tony Dorsett on my team and you can have Walter Payton and Ted Albretch on yours. :D

Well records are made to be broken. Just don't let him break the record against us.

It is a decade record, not the all-time record. Let me know when that one is in jeopardy.

Does it matter? One day Emmitt records will fall like most record do. The 3 rings that Emmitt and the Cowboys earned always meant more to me that the individual accomplishment.

Of course it matters. Obscure records like the one posted don't mean much but all-time records certainly do. The 3 rings would not have been possible without Emmitt's running. They go together IMO.

At least it's LT. Good for him.
Now if it was an Eagle, Commander or Giant...or a Patriot or Steeler....then that would suck!

Right....Like Aikman's record of most wins of any QB in a decade.
What is the record for a running 10 years, like 85-94 of some QB or RB.
Some players do start their careers in the middle of a decade.

I just do not get that caught up in the records, Emmitt broke records of Marcus Allen and Walter Peyton 2 guys I have high respect for and one day Emmitt record will fall as well. If it is a guy like LT then great, it does not lessen the greatness of the players before.

He'll never get close to the career rushing yards record so no biggie.

True, LT needed to be much closer at this stage if he was going to make a real run at Emmitt rushing record

LOL
Without a doubt. I'm sure LT agrees, and I'm also sure that he would have 3 rings if he were on those amazing teams.
Please Tomlinson( I hate calling this dude LT because there is only one LT) has played on some amazing teams. He's played on a 14-2 that crapped the bed in 06, 11-5 team and a 12-4 team and all didn't even get to the Super Bowl. He didn't even attempt to play in the championship game in 07 so he has had opportunities to show that he could have those rings and has nothing to show for it so far.
