Jim Myers: This is the best Cowboys team in years

I had the good fortune to chat with former Cowboys assistant Jim Myers on Tuesday about the current team. He coached alongside Tom Landry from 1962 to 1986. Even though he'll be 87 next month, Myers said, "I'm still a Cowboys coach."

Myers, who is scheduled to undergo a knee replacement soon, watched the first three games at home and concluded, "I think this is the best Cowboys team in quite a while."

"I know a little frustration set in on the quarterback, but he'll be alright," Myers said. "I think if their secondary developed a little better, they'll have a great team. But I like the way the defensive line played, and the offensive line too. Those little running backs will go after every yard."

Myers should know about good offensive line play; he was Landry's line coach. He said linemen used to say there were three ways of doing things. "The right way, the wrong way and the Myers way," Myers said. "And if they didn't, there was the highway."

Don't expect to see Myers at any game this season, even though it's the last at Texas Stadium. He can't stand the crowds.

"I love to watch the Cowboys," Myers said. "I went out there last year for one game and we were over an hour getting into the stadium. That's the way it ought to be, though."

How big were the backs in his day if Barber is little?

Kind of stating the obvious...
With what has been fielded since the late 90's, through the Campo day's up until Parcells hammered them into some semblence of a competent roster, he'd be called senile if he stated anything else.

That is saying much... Our team has sucked for years...

How spry are you if you need a knee replacement at 87?

"Spry" is a state of mind. If he's managed to use his original joints up to this point, he's doing well..

Usually, they'll tell you not to bother at that age as the surgical risks outweigh the utility of the replacement.

Jim Meyers has forgotten more about football that 99.9% of us will ever know...

Imagine your resume' contains "Coached with Tom Landry for 24 years"...

I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Although I do have some questions about his team, I will defer to one of the masters...

I'll take Coach Myers assessment of this Cowboy any day of the week and twice on Sunday...;)

Would love to hear his thoughts about the OL.

tb I have a couple of questions concerning this 2008 Version of the Cowboys myself...I would love to have the opportunity to sit down with Coach Myers and pick his brain.

Should have just asked Cbz40 about the knee replacement.

You had a butt replacement? Won't even ask how that got worn out, but I'll assume it's from watching all those Cowboys games.
