"Convictions do not imply reason"

Think about it.

Good quote...But that still doesn't apply.

Here's the bottom line. I made a post that made light of very poor usage of grammar during a media interview...It was never intended to be anything more than a light-hearted comment.

This whole issue then ballooned into something much bigger than the intended purpose when people either made fallacious excuses about how it didn't matter because he was rich, or that this isn't English class. Or, they laid claims against me of either being a "grammar ****", or as you stated, that I and other defenders of the English language are trying to act like we are better than the rest of the posters...which are all complete nonsense.

All of the extra nit-picking and finger-pointing going on in this thread is ridiculous, and does nothing but extend an already WAY over-done topic in a whole new direction. I NEVER played "grammar police" against anyone in this thread, or picked a fight with anyone over their opinions. I only defended the facts and provided my own rational as to why I care (Teacher & English major) about the English language and the impact celebrities have on the population, especially young people.

That is all...Go Cowboys!

You peeps need to lighten up. If not for a win last week, we would all be lighting this forum up with bad English/American.

I think I'm starting to understand why you are defending this so adamantly...lol Sorry, didn't mean to strike a nerve!
actually you did play grammer police with this statement...im ok with you wanting to type and talk "perfect" but when you start insulting people in the process, you bring it to another level.

Sorry buddy, why don't you review how it actually played out starting on page one. Check your first post, my first reply to you, and what you posted back...

Here's the bottom line...neither of my posts were serious. :D

I was mangling the English in my posts and picking out random quotes for fun. For what it's worth though, I enjoyed your posts.

Why not? Good Lord...these are professional athletes who have (mostly) either graduated with a bachelors degree, or at least spent a few years in college. You would think Sensabaugh "might could" put together a sentence without blatant abuses to the English language.

I'm a HUGE fan of Sensabaugh and I was one of his biggest proponents when I heard he was signed as a free agent. I originally pointed out the grammar mistake because it was funny, but if I'm actually being challenged as to why I pointed it out, then that's not saying much for our expectations of how people should speak, is it? Regardless of whether or not this is English class...I'm simply saying, it's bad form. Are you actually going to argue that?

Seriously, not to fight with a fellow fan over grammar... but really? Are you really that worried over Gerald's grammar? Who cares how it came out? I don't. I'm just ready for Sunday's showdown in Minny.

All I know is, I'z hope that's Sensabaw breaks that qwotaback in haf come sundy.

For some reason, it's en vogue for my generation to speak like we're dumber than we are. I'll never understand it.

Please...you may want to check that yourself. There is nothing wrong with what I stated. Sure, in a doctoral level paper it is preferable to omit redundancy by leaving out "I'm just saying", but it certainly doesn't contradict any rules of grammar.

Anyway, if you don't have any value to add to the discussion then why post? This was never intended to be a nit-picking session on the members of this forum. I simply pointed out a gross error in English made by one of our players when speaking to the media. Don't make it to be more than it is...

I simply pointed out your gross errors in English. These are for your items and those are for someone else's items or things. It's just proper English. And leaving out passive verbs is also correct English just to mention two from memory.

Don't point out grammatical errors on a public forum then commit them yourself if you don't want them pointed out to you.

I'm curious to know what gross errors in English you're pointing out to 7footer?

You can pm it to me since it's apparent that this dead horse has been blessed with nine lives.

Sure, I'm not saying that he wasn't speaking in a comfortable manner, or even in an excitable mode where he reverted back to bad habits...I was merely making a joke about it on the front page when a few posters tried to justify it because "he's a football player", or "he makes more than an English teacher". I have a very good understanding of why he may have spoken like this, and it was never meant to be a big deal until I started reading some of these off-the-wall responses.

Thanks for unnecessarily hijacking this thread. Everyone understood what Gerald meant. You are being quite ridiculous right now.
