I don't know of another starting quarterback in the NFL serving as the holder for point after attempts and field goals, but the Cowboys will apparently make the switch to Tony Romo.

I'm OK with it but it is a risk. You don't want to put the quarterback under any unnecessary risk but this isn't unnecessary.

Nick Folk has missed five of his last seven attempts. Mat McBriar has accepted the blame for at least three of Folk's eight misses this year because of his holds. Wade Phillips has said Folk has a different mentality than most kickers that he has been around, which means he's not as, umm, flaky. But when a kicker doesn't have confidence in the where and the when of the hold, then it's time to try something new.

And why Romo makes the most sense is that he is the only player with experience in games doing it. You can make the argument that all of the experience isn't good (see Seattle playoff game) but it's not time to give Patrick Crayton, Sam Hurd or David Buehler a look a the job when they have never done it in a game, especially games as crucial as these final four will be for the Cowboys.

By the way, Romo has held since that slip in Seattle. It was at the Pro Bowl a few weeks later in Hawaii. Saints coach Sean Payton, also and Eastern Illinois grad and one of Romo's biggest supporters, was coaching the NFC team that year. As he went through some the week's work in a meeting with the players he closed the session with this: "And Romo, you're holding," which busted up the room in some laughter.

Will Romo hold or pass?

Argue all you want about whether or not it makes sense to have your starting quarterback as the holder. Using Tony Romo in this position has one obvious benefit.

This from special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, who watched Romo hold for the first time in Wednesday's practice.

"He did a good job,'' DeCamillis said. "We will have a better feel (today) with some more reps.

"He definitely gives us some fake possibilities.''

Why, are opposing players going to be flying through the line looking to purposely punch Romo in the face? Or he is talking about the risk of Romo dropping the ball?

We always have the oddest problems on this team, lol. Shotgun snapper, kickoff specialist, field goal holder. :laugh1:

Exactly how often do holders get injured, on average?

The only possible reason to fear is that someone is going to purposefully look to hurt Romo, cause they barely ever even get touched.

The only concern I have is that Romo is under enough pressure already without loading him up with this responsibility,,, as if having his greatest assett(gun-slinging) removed by the coaches and being blamed for the December woes wasn't enough, now he's got to revisit "the hold" with the jack@rse media everyday,,,, heaven help him if the holds are not perfect or one slips away.

The risk is greatly overblown.

I remember a punter, I think it was for the Jets but I'm not sure, who was injured but that was 20-25 years ago.

I think it's silly to have our all star pro bowl QB holding. I thought it was stupid when he did it in the seattle game. I think it's stupid now.

He did it that entire season and the season before. But don't let facts get in the way.

He's more likely to be injured playing QB than as a holder for kicks. Name me one holder who has been injured?

I know that he did but once he had the reigns handed over to him he should of been relieved of that duty.

Usually, you don't care if your holder's hand gets kicked or a finger jammed. That said, it doesn't matter. We need to fix our kicking game if we're going to get through this coming stretch.

Instead of switching to Tony Romo as the holder. Why not have Buehler parctice field goals?

And given to whom? McBriar? How's that working out?

Brad Johnson arrived in 2007. Bledsoe was no holder.

Wow me with your brilliance.

How do you know he doesn't? He does. He's not as good at it as Folk.

Next question.

I hope Romo doesn't take a Bryan-Barker-esque knee to the face on a botched FG attempt.

So the best option at holder out of a 53 man roster was Romo our starting pro bowl QB. I'm pretty sure you could of gotten some to do that job. However, it was thing for Parcells to try and stifle Romo's ego.

Does it realy matter who the kicker is if the holder is the problem?

One thing about it,Folk needs to get going becuase he's running out of excuses quickly.

Well, you're used to being wrong (how's our 5-11 season looking?), so might as well be on this too.
