I don't think the blame can be put all on McBrair but that seems to be the scapegoat for Folk. Folk isn't preforming the holds aren't as bad to the point that folk have been missing. What about folks first 10 or 11 kicks where he's made them. This streak of missing has started recently. Was that mcbrairs fault ? I don't but I really think it's something with Folk and not the hold. So switch kickers see if buehler hits them then we'll really see who was the problem folk or mcbrair don't you agree?

McBriar has said he was at fault on three of Folk's misses, so that's almost half (8 total). Then there is the possibility that the kicker doesn't have much confidence in the holder because of that, which could cause some doubt or hesitancy in his swing.

If you're a kicker and you're worried about other things than your part of the operation, that's going to mess you up.

As far as switching kickers, I would rather change holders first to see if that fixes the issue for a previously very solid kicker than switch to a rookie kicker who has not worked on FGs much this season. This isn't the time for that experiment ... go with someone you know has had success before in a FG role (Romo).

Because he has been hitting them during the week? You have not seen him nor have I, so tell me how has he been doing during the week as they work on FG? I'm all in favor of making a positive move not just making a move just for the sake of it.

C'mon doomsday they all practice good but the problems lies if we can count on him to make fields in game situations. You know this practice don't talk to me bout practice. :D

That last sentence says it all. I remember reading earlier that McBriar goes after the ball, thus throwing the timing off? I'm starting to warm up to this idea of Romo holding now.
Yeah, McBriar admitted that he "goes after" the ball, reaches out for it instead of letting it come to him which, he felt, made his placement of the ball on the ground a bit off of where Folk wanted it, thus the shank.

Makes sense to me, but I'm just taking McBriar's word for it.

As snakebit as we seem to be this time of year, it really wouldnt surprise me if this lead to some off the wall disaster at some point.

Exactly how often do holders get injured, on average?

.

There was a time when starting QB's did alot of the PAT holding.

But your point is 100% valid, can anyone show me an example of where a HOLDER got injured? I've been watching football since 1975, and I honestly cant think of one.

"He did a good job,'' DeCamillis said. "We will have a better feel (today) with some more reps.

"He definitely gives us some fake possibilities.''

I love the fact that it give us more fake possibilities. I remember back in the 90's when Novacek was the holder that he ran for a couple of TD's on fake FG's. Entering this stretch of games we're going to need a bit of trickery on our part to beat these "apparently unbeatable" teams.

Nah me neither. I for one want Romo and this team to take this opportunity to exorcise all these demons once and for all: the muffed hold, the December collapse, the cabo wabo experience etc.

Does it realy matter who the kicker is if the holder is the problem?

One thing about it,Folk needs to get going becuase he's running out of excuses quickly.

Craig

Everybody is just naturally assuming that it is the bad holds that are causing the misses. What do we do if Shankapotamus still cant kick with Romo holding???

What excuse will be used then???

I agree risk is minimal and if Romo has to do it for the remainder of the season then so be it.

I do think Romo has enough on his plate overall and hate to take away his time focusing on his job at QB during practice where now he will have to be out there with the special teams unit as they get practice in.

I would hope next season we can find someone who can do the job. For the life of me I can't think of 1 starting QB who is being used as a holder other than Romo.

The reason you cant think of one is because there are none. Romo is the only starting QB in the entire NFL that is also the holder.

I am sorry fellas, but this is just the most ******** thing I have ever heard. I cant believe that the only person on our roster that can properly hold for FGs and XPs is the freaking franchise QB.

We will see, Ill give this move the benefit of the doubt...FOR NOW.

Holds, supposedly, have been a problem all season, somehow now is time for michelin man to change things up...

If this works, its brilliant, if it results in another Seattle fiasco, Wade should be hung from his short, grey curlies.

I hope Romo doesn't take a Bryan-Barker-esque knee to the face on a botched FG attempt.

Anybody know the last time a place holder got hurt holding kicks lol? I'm more worried about the sacks Romo gets than I am about his 1 out of a 100 chance of getting hurt place holding.

Let me preface all this by saying that I think that the whole concern is overblown and I'm sure that Romo will be perfectly safe holding.

That said, I'm surprised that Superpunk's the only one who remembers that one of the worst looking injuries ever happened to a holder during a relatively recent Cowboys game.

Against the Redsk*ns, Barker bobbled the snap, tried to run for it, and in tackling him, Roy Williams ended up kneeing him though his over-large opening in his facemask. Damn I love posting this picture:
