I don't agree about the Jimmy Smith/Stanback corrolation. JS had two injuries, one of them non-football related: A broken leg, then an appendectomy. On the other hand, Stanback has had a slew of different football-related injuries. Jimmy Smith was basically healthy football-wise, Stanback can't stay healthy football-wise.

Jerry's flip flops drive me crazy:

a) Condones and even trades for bad guys (Haley, E. Williams, Irvin, etc. etc.)
b) Gets rid of the bad guys on the team after the "White House." Passes on Randy Moss.
c) Then he sees Randy Moss' success while the Cowboys go through a bad phase.
d) So he gets more "trouble" on the team again if he sees talent: Owens, Pac, Tank.
e) Gets rid of the bad guys on the team again.

Coaches: From disciplinarians to easy-going guys, back and forth.

Jerry is determined not to let go of Stanback. He should let this one go. .... Guys in final cutdowns that have been let go while Stanback has kept his roster spot have have included Jerheme Urban, Matt Moore, Evan Oglesby ... all of them functional contributors on excellent teams.

The OTHER major difference is Jimmy Smith was a great player at San Diego State that played WR.

Stanbach hasn't showed he can even play the position.

Why not keep 6 wide receivers?

I didn't think it was possible since we are keeping an extra kicker and third quarterback. But with the play of the secondary, I'm starting to think we could go with six receivers if they are better than some of the scrubs we have at DB. Then go with nine DBs --- Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Ball, (Mickens), Sensabaugh, K. Hamlin, M. Hamlin and Smith. I put Mickens in brackets because if he doesn't show any signs of improvement, he could be headed for the practice squad and a better special teams player like Watkins be kept instead.

Of course, it's also possible the extra DB spot will have to be used on an extra outside linebacker if neither B. Williams or Butler shows he can contribute.

BTW, the other extra spot will be created by keeping nine OL instead of 10.

And we have 3 more pre-season game for Stanback to show something or not. I do think this is do or die for Stanback in terms of making the team but to make an intelligent decision I would think people would want to see what he will do in the reminder of the pre-season. As Mike Vick would say I don't have a dog in this fight for me I want guys going out and producing and earning their way on the team.

I agree.

But if he doesn't show something substantial in the next three games, I think it is time to go in another direction. Like Landry and Parcells said, "If they don't show something by year 3, its not happening" or something like that...

Wr is supposed to be a skill position. Our Wr depth consist of Undrafted free agents , QB to WR Projects and 7th rounders.. Even New England, Pittsburg and Indy spend high draft picks on WR's..

Because Jerry Jones doesn't believe any WR would come in and help us. He is also caught up in the nonsense about WR being the most difficult position to transition to from college to the NFL.

So voila, he doesn't draft WR's. Meanwhile, it's ok to waste 1st rounders on LB's.

I agree especially if a guy like Olgtree is producing. I have no favorite in this I just want the guy who shows the most to make the team.

I just don't want Stanback to make the team because he's playing better in practice or whatever...

and then he just gets hurt again during the regular season

that's what makes this so difficult, I mean he could stay healthy the rest of his career and turn into a great player, or he could look great to make the team, stay healthy long enough, and then when another, good looking WR gets cut to keep him, he just gets hurt again

Even the Tom Brady's of the NFL get hurt. You can't anticipate injuries speaking generally. Leave it to the doctors and trainers to say this guy should be the same risk as the general population or any other NFL player.

I thought Stanback was Ireland's pet project, not Jerry's.

Ogletree is coming off an injury as well who knows if he is over his. I would hate to invest this time in Stanback see him go on to have a good career elsewhere. There are all kinds of risk, all you can go by really is what both guys show. For me which ever guy shows the most is the one I want, there are no agenda for me on this.

I agree, and I don't have an agenda either, both have shown as much as the other has

both have good size, and both are extremely fast

I'm just really wary given Stanback's history, and it's not like he's seen much game action and gotten injured, I'm just afraid that he's always going to be hurt

I think you mean Jackson State.

We have seen 1 pre-season with 3 to go. I would just as soon sit back and watch how it plays out. If Ogletree shows he is better then go with him and release Stanback but I would not cut a player based on what could happen in terms of an injury that is unless it was determined a player had a degenerative condition which is not been the case with Stanback at least that I have heard.

I'm not saying cut Stanback because of his injury history, I'm just saying that makes it such a hard decision either way

I like Stanback and even if he makes the roster this year, I doubt he will have a long career. I hope he wisely invested his money over the last couple of years.

I hope him and Ogletree make the coaching decision extreamly hard. if so then maybe we keep Stanback and place Ogletree on the PS.

Wouldn't that be more reason to give Stanback more time to develop?

Wouldn't that also be a reason to give me a chance to develop into a WR? :laugh2:

It would be. But it'd be the only reason. Unless you're 6'3", run at least a 4.4, have good hands and can cut like a running back.
