Columbo is solid and cheap - why all rushing him out of dodge?

You want Pittdawgie back there?

We are just plain snake bit as regards to drafting O linemen in the 2nd and 3rd rds. Outside of Gurode, you have to go all the way back to the Hotel to get a good one.
Honestly- we have gotten more out of late rd picks then early picks.
Say what you want we got a full year out of petitti, and McQ has been the backup for 2 years now.
When you consider how much we have to pay early rd picks vs 6th and 7th rd guys we really have done better there.

Al Johnson was decent and no more.
Free- I really don't know. He has NOT looked very good in games.
On the other hand every FA lineman has been at least decent.
Kosier was a steal, Bigg has been fine, even Marco was decent despite the injury. And of course Colombo was flat out highway robbery.

On another note: with the LACK of progress being shown by our young tackles, its getting more and more likely Jerrah is going to have to pony up for Colombo.
It seems very clear that Houck is so different from Sparano that anyone drafted from the previous regime is not going to do well.

Lets not forget the Jacob Rogers bust, the very pick I advocated trading back in the day - LOL

I don't understand we are all cowboys fans why is it so much arguing all the time.

Because for some it's a lot more fun for them to do this than to pull out the rulers and embarrass themselves.

i always thought free was better

Everyone did, he was ranked higher before the draft if my memory serves me. When we took Marten, everyone saw it as a bit of a reach, turns out everyone was right.

We have survived several bad drafts mostly on the strength of the 2005 draft, cause there have been some downright awful drafts around it.

I have my hopes the 2008 draft will turn out to be a very good draft for us as well, but I'll wait till I see it.

Actually, Wade made Amendola relevant by promoting one guy but not the other. It's only natural to speculate why.

Probably fumbling the rock had alot to do with Amendola being demoted behind Jefferson.

Butterfingers cannot yet be trusted in a real game, in my opinion.

I don't think so Jefferson was always working with the 2nd team while Amendola was working with the 3rd team however not to many people were paying attention to that.

I know we need another WR on the active roster and I guess Jefferson is the best option. I just hope we don't have to count too heavily on him. I wish I had seen something from him to give me some confidence. He made a few nice plays but he also made some very poor plays. And on several plays I did not see the effort that I would expect from a pro and more particularly from a young guy trying to make the team. He should have been playing all out and leaving everything on the field...he did not.

He is our best option right now, however I do agree with your analysis. Problem is no other receiver could be signed/traded for and be familiar with the offense on the eve of the season openner.

So it was either Amendola or Jefferson and I think the fumble problems Amendola had in preseason is what tilted the Boyz to go with Jefferson.

My .02

It wasn't the fumble....Jefferson has been in the offense longer and was higher on the depth chart also.....

I think the last 10 drafts have produced 1 starting olman. My question is why now? This came a week too late. Its the same bs roster moves jerry made back in the day. This team will always have this problem as coaches try to keep their jobs by givin praise to jerry draft bust.

I disagree because the coaches (especially Wade) will be held accountable for the team performance. The coaches are going to make every move possible, including cutting a high pick, if the chances of winning are improved.

That fact that Jerry came out and said Wade's job was not in jeapordy if the team did not reach the SB tells you it really is. The dreaded "Vote Of Confidence" is always the first sign.;)

Good point, I never noticed that either.

It could be that Amendola is just not that good, who knows.

Agreed. I thought the team would let Colombo walk and try to save some money, but given how bad the backups look, there's really no alternative. Besides, Colombo has earned it. He's solidified a position that's ben a weak spot since Erik Williams left.

Agreed again.

Once Holland is fully up to speed, I would start churning the bottom of this roster - specifically the offensive line backups.

Both Procter and McQuistan seem ill-suited to a 'Houck style' line.

So is this Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano's fault or Jerry Jones?

Houck is of the old school mauler type; Sparano was of the mobile moving zone type; Now MCQ was THOUGHT to be a mauler type but I guess not. Same with Free, but he seems good enough that he might stick anyway. I look for all the other backups (Proctor, Berger, McQ) to be gone this offseason and replaced by Houck types.

I wouldn't wait that long.

Houck has seen enough of these guys on film, in practice, and in the preseason to have a good idea of what he does and doesn't have.

I think there are several decent candidates out there who can come in and be more capable backups than what the team currently has.
