DMN Blog: Jason Witten will not hold Martellus Bennett's hand

Good....the kid needs to figure out if he wants to be good or not.

HBO didn't "create" a perception of the kid. When the coach is whispering to you to tuck your shirt in and you spend 5 minutes arguing that it's not comfortable, that's all you. When you roll your eyes after a coach tries to get you pumped up, looking right at the camera like you're trying to clown him, that's all you. When you're asked to tuck the ball in or put your helmet on, and you act like it's the hardest request anyone has ever made of you in your life, that's all you.

As Witten said, only Bennett can make a PROFESSIONAL out of himself. At this level, it stops being about what you've done for the past 21 years and about taking a much more professional approach to something that becomes more than just a game at this point.

No one cares how "you move", watch how Witten moves and do what he does.

Why should Witten go easier on him, privately or publicly? It's small things like Witten's comments which will actually mold Bennett into being a better player.

kid is immature, so freaking what, he shows up on game day. If he does it in the regular season I am more than pleased, he can roll his eyes all he wants.

Everyone has big fumbles at some point. Witten has had some big fumbles in his career and he is not considered high maintenance.

Case in point, the Detroit game where he fumbled at the goal line only to redeem himself later. I'm glad Bennett has enough sense to look at Witten and emulate his good work habits. He's also right about remaining true to himself (as long as it involves keeping his head on straight).

It was. The Cowboys scouts knew about it and issued a war room warning.

I did not know that...did the scouts advise to go with someone else or did they just say this was an area that would need to be managed? Did Jerry or Wade disregard the warning?

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of the fact that he was accused of "jogging" while covering kickoffs in a preseason game (supposedly one of these "great" performances) by his coaches.

Bennet probably thinks in his head that Witten is worried about him taking his spot.Bennet is one cocky rookie.

I am curious about why everyone is saying Bennett is cocky?

He got drafted in the second round, logic would dictate that makes him one of the best college players in the game. Why do people twist that into him being cocky, its a fact, and not even a disputable one.

I can picture him fumbling in a big game for us. This guy seems too high maintanence. Anyone see Fasano catch a TD in preseason?

Fasano is what he is a decent player but not a threat and not some you have to account for. He just doesn't have nearly the upside of Bennett. Bennett already looks like a better blocker and he is far more athletic then Fasano. I am looking forward to watching him make some plays to help this team win.

The fact that he was down on himself after the first preseason and got it together is a good sign in my opinion. He is obviously working hard to improve and it is showing on the field.

We got him because right now he is better then Fasano will ever be.

we know there's guys that seem to somehow "show up" on Sundays. Bennett may be this kind of guy, but it doesn't mean you can slack it during practice, at least not with the leadership on this team. Witten's just trying to make him realize his full potential. It seems like Bennett is ok with being a B+ student instead of making the necessary effort to be an A+ teammate and player
