Jerry Jones is right! And he's wrong, too!

It appears that every time Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talks this off-season, it's going to make news. That's because virtually no one else in the organization is talking.

In Little Rock Thursday, where he was honored by Easter Seals for his charitable work, Jones made one statement I completely agree with.

"We've got a chance to get as many as nine players in the draft,'' Jones said, "and we'll need about 80 percent of those to be players.''

Correct. This team still has needs, both in the starting lineup and depth players, too.

But then he spoke so glowingly about Roy Williams, Miles Austin and Sam Hurd that Jones said there is no urgency for the Cowboys to draft a young wide receiver.

"It would have to be a real opportunity for us to go there,'' he said.

Really?

This team needs another wide receiver, now that Terrell Owens is gone. Until that happens, Tony Romo is throwing to an average set of wide receivers.

And I will not be shocked or surprised when we do take a WR in the draft. Jerry no doubt is talking up the guys who are on the team but I don't think on draft day it will prevent them from taking a WR if the opportunity arises.

If JJ thinks he is going to hit at 80% in the Draft assuming 9 players drafted, he's being very optimistic, IMO.

That would have to rate as one of our best drafts ever, IMO, since JJ bought the team. That means we have to hit on 7 of the 9 players. On the other hand, assuming we have 11 picks, and we have to hit on 7 players, the hit rate is more like 63%, which is still difficult to achieve, but obviously easier.

It's not undoable, but optimistic.

Jerry Jerry Jerry.

All I can do is laugh.

Roy = Just a name
Austin = hasn't done anything, basically a 1 trick pony, and if the deep ball isn't there, he's useless.
Crayton = loud mouth turtle.
Hurd = He has some WR skills but will never ever get separation.
Stanback = worst draft pick since Carpenter.

If we don't bring in someone who can play, then teams will simply double up on Witten, single up on all these other losers, blitz the heck out of Romo, and once again, we'll be sitting home for the post season.

What is with the Cowboys media and fans obsession with Wide receivers??? Like we need an elite set of WR's to be a good team.

How is Stanback worse than Skyler Green?

Or Marten?

We need playmakers, and I don't see any.

I know it's now popular to say you don't need a great WR to win the SB, let's take Plax off the giants, they were ordinary.

Let's take Boldin and Fitzgerald off the Cards, they are trash.

Let's take Jerry Rice off the 49ers, Irvin off the Cowboys, Pearson, Stallworth, off their teams.

Holt off the Rams, I can go on and on and on. Of course, every now and then a team will get lucky without a great WR, but rarely.

Is Roy great? No one knows at this point, but based on last year with a HOF wr next to him, and a dominant WR next to him in Detroit, I doubt it.

He was a low draft pick, and he was drafted to do something he's always done.

Stanback was a QB, drafted to play an important position on a team. Hasn't worked, won't work.

Skyler Green was a 4th rounder.

Stanback was a 4th rounder.

Marten was a 3rd rounder.

Skyler Green was a WR; Stanback was moved to WR... and Stanback had more career catches in Dallas than Green, has more returns than Green.... Green was drafted to be a returner, and couldn't even do that. Stanback can at least KR.

Stanback is a 10th rounder for a WR, I think you get my drift there.

Worst draft pick since Carpenter, is what you claimed.

Who has provided more to the Cowboys; Stanback or Green? Both drafted in the 4th round.

isn't it funny. the Steelers don't have a great wr core. nor did the Giants in 07 or the pats in 01,03 and 04 or the bucs in 2002 or the Ravens in 2000. the Colts are the only team to win a superbowl this decade with an elite wr core.

Is Holt even considered "elite" anymore?

Yes, he is more experienced than our guys. But the question is whether he's on the decline. Does he have a strong year or two left in him?

Neither, but Green was supposed to be a KR, and he was in college.

Stanback was supposed to be a QB, but they wanted to turn him into a WR. How smart would it be to draft Ware, make him play QB?

You named some examples but i can name some teams that were good teams without a elite WR. So the patriots were lucky in those three super bowls they won without elite WR?? I guarantee you on some of those teams you named if you take the QB away those teams would be nothing.

What is your beef with Roy?? The guy had a foot injury. Can you reserve judgment on him with a whole off-season under his belt and a injury free start?.

I have no problems with him personally, but in the words of the sorry Randy Galloway, he's KP "Kan't play".

If he had a foot injury, then why was he playing? If you're going to do nothing but hurt your team, then Garrett and Jones should know this "I mention those 2 since those 2 run the team".

Roy will get his catches, but he will NOT be a game changer.
