DMN Blog: Jerry Jones talks playcalling, team's chances, GM

I see what you're saying here theebs, but in fairness there has to be a better solution to pass protection issues then keeping your without a doubt best receiving threat in to block. Especially with 2 other more than capable TEs to do it.

And not finding some way to have Witten run in the end zone on the final two plays when the next two best options are Hurd and Austin is simply inexcusable.

I agree completely. I didnt understand why bennett and barber were not on the field. Speed doesnt matter at that point.

I have no problem being critical of garrett, contrary to the beliefs of some.

Witten has been the guy in the past to make a play in that spot. It sucks he wasnt given the chance. We were in a similar situation in 05 in seattle and we went to witten twice if I remember correctly, the second time he got interfered with and there was no flag...

The situation is the typical Jerry disaster...Wade can actually disown responsibility for the offense...everyone knows it's Garrett's.

Unfortunately, "his" defense has been pretty inconsistent and has come up small in big moments.

Its ridiculous. Has ANY other team ever had a setup like this where its basically two coordinators as the defacto coaches of the team who seem to not even talk to one another?

Here is a little relief....the two teams we lost to are two of only five undefeated teams, and I don't think Flo had a single penalty vs Denver....feel better now khiladi.
Sounds a lot like the same excuse making as last year... We couldn't score against the likes of Pittsburgh and so on, because they were good defenses. We are only losing to good teams. Then Philly happened, and all the TOs on offense with that 'high-powered' all over the field offense and we didn't make the play-offs...

Jerry should just grab the headphones and go down on the field as head coach.

And you're right...there is ZERO interaction between Garrett and Phillips.

Ya had to know that when Jerry didn't get his playoff win with Parcells, he had all the justification he needed to going back to doing things his way.

For all we know, he's up in his skybox calling plays like he is playing Madden.

...and by the way, I did have one sighting of Philips getting in Garrett's face. That was when he had 2 jump balls against Carolina instead of just running it in. Garrett gave some BS excuse, and Phillips backed off.

The ironic thing is, the season is far from over. But we are beginning to see similar trends, which I hope are corrected soon. I don't want to see new wrinkles in the offense or defense, I just want to see some continuity.Look at how the Cardinals ended their season. Their offense was stalling by the end of the year, but they made a systematic attempt to run the ball and I believe Whisenhunt probably got involved in the offense.

The biggest mistake of Jerry in the off-season was keeping Garrett. But he was doing what the majority of this board wanted him to do. The irony is the same people on this board that wanted it done are now blowing up on Jerry.

Just like a few of these guys and Parcells ....

They talk about how everything was great with Parcells ..... but the same guys called him clueless when he was here.

They just like to hear themselves cry.

On if he would ever hire a coach/general manager type: "No ... I don't have anything I don't manage. I just don't."

Classic arrogant Jerry. That should be his epitaph.

JJT of all people pointed it out. Wade was asked in the presser why Barber only had 1 carry in the 2nd half.

Wade didn't know.

The head coach had no idea why his starting RB and arguably one of his most valuable offensive players was not on the field for an entire half.

I would say that's a pretty good clue that these two have nothing to do with each other. In fact I think Wade just turns on music or something in his headphones when the offense takes the field.

I will give it to Jerry, he's managed to tear down one dynasty and is now in the process of ruining our chances after BP got us back in contention.

There was a reason Wade wanted Dan Reeves here...

There are a lot of reasons IMO.

There's one reason why he isn't.

I wouldn't doubt Jerry is making the calls and acting like he's not when the cameras' go on him...only important calls like 4th downs....just like the Draft Room BS....GOD we will always be a complete joke with Jones as GM/Owner.....the worse joke is that took me 12 years of blind support to finally realize.

A lot of shining lights on only certain aspects from opposing sides when trying to make a case, but the bottom line is the bottom line and it can't be ignored: a team that has not been competitive enough to get to the post season, but two times where it summarily went home.

Wins are all that matters, not the yesteryear and certainly not the face time of the guy doing the least of the muscle work. The bottom line in football is winning when it counts. This team hasn't, this team is a failure: Jones admitted in this article that there is no aspect he does not manage, therefore this is an admission of failure because this team has been failing for many years.

The thing is Garretts offense HAS worked this year.

He did get owned Sunday though.
2 good games, 2 bad ones. And one of the good ones was against an awful TB team.

Carolina was an epic fail. 13 points is not the definition of something working.

In your opinion. I respect that we all have one. If Jerry was running things as he did before I would be much more inclined to agree but I do see better players being brought in because I think Jerry is doing a better job of listening to those he has hired when it comes to personnel from his scouts to the HC.
Wow. Ignore what's happened the last 3 years and most of the last 13. Unbelievable.

You're missing my point.

It shouldn't be Jerry's decision to make...it should be the head coach's.

But Jerry Jones is the head coach.

Parcells not getting a playoff win was all the ammo Jerry needed to go back to doing things his way. In the three years since Parcells left we have seen Jerry get bolder and bolder and now the line between management and coach has been blurred so much that it's hard to tell who is doing what. It feels like we're seeing Jerry giving postgame comments on personnel, playcalling, etc. more than ever before.
