DMN Blog: Jerry Jones talks playcalling, team's chances, GM

Two words for you:Free agencyIf the NFL never went free-agency, the Cowboys would have dominated even the late nineties. One of the big problems is Dallas got caught with back-ended salaries and the Micahel Irvin fiasco, which caused this team to pass on Randy Moss and eventually make a stupid trade for Galloway.

I agree and that was 110 percent Jerrys' fault because he supported the Salary Cap to no end at the time and shot himself in the foot. We''ll that foot has taken alot more than just one blow. He's gone through a whole closet of Armanies.

Like it or not, there actually have been several NFL Players and Coaches who have come out and said emphatically to the public that they would never Play or Coach specifically for Jerry Joneses Dallas Cowboys.

I caught some of Jerry Jones on his weekly appearance on The Fan this morning, and he was not ready to throw away the season after a 2-2 start. No shocker.

Anyway, here's what he said:

"I really like our team. I like the makeup of our team. I like the quarterback a lot. I've been part of a team that lost the first two games and won a Super Bowl. You've got to be a little careful when you've got the length of a season that we've got."

On Jason Garrett's playcalling: "It's so easy to second guess playcalling. I think it goes with the territory. You've got to win consistently to keep it from happening. I do know what we do is well thought out."

On if he would ever hire a coach/general manager type: "No ... I don't have anything I don't manage. I just don't."

I may be off base here, but I wish Jerry would keep his voice of the radio and his face off the camera. It is bad when he is the one that gives out the injury report for the week.

Just shut the **** up Jerry!

Jerry told him to look like he was talking to him while the cameras were on in the draft room. Nice touch you have no clue about that so you add that in please!!!:lmao:

Johnson's story was this: The day before the 1992 NFL draft, the Dallas brain-trust—Johnson, Jones and Ackles—formulated a trade to offer the Cleveland Browns. Late that day, after Jones had left the office, Cleveland coach Bill Belichick called back to say he would do the deal, and the Cowboys announced it. On draft day Jones came to the office upset that he hadn't been called when the deal was confirmed, and he asked to see Johnson. Their meeting droned on until, with only five minutes left before the start of the draft, Jones told Johnson, "You know the ESPN camera is in the draft room today. So whenever we're about to make a pick, you look at me, like we're talking about it." In other words, Make me look as if I'm a big player here, even though we all know I'm not making the picks.

The mistakes he's "admitted" and the "changes" he has made are inconsequential to the one mistake he still needs to admit and the change he needs to implement: himself as the GM.

In your opinion. I respect that we all have one. If Jerry was running things as he did before I would be much more inclined to agree but I do see better players being brought in because I think Jerry is doing a better job of listening to those he has hired when it comes to personnel from his scouts to the HC.

Jerry should have listened to TO even before the Commanders interview... The guy was calling out Garrett all season long, and the irony is, people made it appear that his real beef was with Tony Romo.... You remember the meeting Garrett had with his 3 WRs last year.

Jerry got rid of TO and everybody thought this offense was going to the moon... Now that hasn't worked, they conveniently forget about how much love they were giving Garrett this off-season and have started taking shots at Jerry... But Jerry was making awesome moves and learning finally... He got rid of Tank, Pac-man and TO and the rest of the cancers... yada, yada, yada....

The way Jimmy is telling it right? This came out right after Jimmy left and feelings between the 2 were at it's lowest point. Jimmy Johnson has quite a bit of ego of his own so I have no doubt that is the way he sees it.

Give it a rest. Owens was one of the guys who couldnt get open last year. He just cant admit he is not 28 years old and running right past people anymore.

On top of that, in adverse times he went and made things 5 times worse with his bloated ego and inability to remember he is part of a team.

You know what...Garrettt is weak if he couldn't handle T.O. and shouldn't be trusted as a play caller. Especially a Head Coach because he would lose the team like Jim Zorn.

I got some invaluable advice for a couple of Millionaires - Danny Snider should go ahead and hire Holmgren and Jerry hire Cohwer give them the riens and please get out of the spot light, then just S T ***.

I don't think Garrett isn't trying. I just think he flat-out sucks. His prior stint was at Miami as a QB caoch, with Gus Frerotte and Joey Harrington. He hasn't done anything, but lucked into an OC position with all the talent in the world, that compensated for his atrocious play-calling. Now that he has had 3 seasons to fully make an impression, this offense looks more out-of-sync than ever... WRs are running routes that everbody knows is coming. They keep running right into the heart of the defense. Now they are slower WRs than before... The guy can't even force defenses honest, because there is no consistency in his approach....

So you're just going to write it off and act like it never happened? gotcha, like usual.

None of our WRs are getting open now... And even Witten isn't making an impact... Yay Garrett!!! Just admit it, despite his big mouth, TO was right...

Trying to refute the truth?

"Oh no, that can't be right because, because then we can't hold on to our fantasy that Jerry was really the mastermind back then." :laugh2:

No not saying that at all. Jimmy Johnson comments about Jerry has been much kinder than things that were being said by Jimmy when he 1st left that is all I'm saying.

witten didnt make an impact for one game. That was due to the problems at left tackle.

Nevermind anyway, there is no point in talking to you.

And I still couldn't be happier he is off the team.

That may be, but still doesn't invalidate what he did say when he first left.

When it came to seeking out oil, Jones’ accomplishments could not be denied. When it came to football, however, Jones was a dolt. Sure, Jones could watch a Herman Moore and understand why the Detroit wide receiver was a star. But in terms of the nitty gritty—in deciding whether a Division II nose tackle could transition to NFL linebacker or whether an opposing team was disguising its blitz package—he was no more insightful than the schlub at home in his Barcalounger.
