So 361 pts is not even playoff worthy?

We scored 40 offensive tds this yr. We won the Super Bowl in 1993 and scored 38 offensive tds. Most people considered our 1993 team to be a superb team overall and a great team offensively.

The Stealers scored 347 pts and won the Super Bowl last year.

The Giants scored 373 pts and won the Super Bowl in 2007.

Stealers scored 389 in 2005 and won the Super Bowl.

New England won the Super in 2003 with 348 pts.

Tampa had 346 in 2002 and won it all.

New England in 2001 had 371 pts and won it all.

Baltimore scored 333 in 2000 and won it all.

Quitting while you are ahead comes to mind.

No doubt next season is going to be a crical year for Bennett much like this season was a critical year for Spencer who was entering his 3rd season. Bennett showed allot of promise coming out of camp but did not bring his game into the reg season this next season all eyes will be on Bennett and he needs to step it up

I don't why fans can't see this but what Bennett is going through is the same thing that most young players go through. We saw this first hand with Spencer, Miles, and Free.

People want instant results and when they do not get them they start claiming what a bust someone is. Hate to say it but not every player will develop at the same pace. Is Bennett a bit immature I would say so but he is also a good kid who has very good talent. Hopefully the disappointment of his play this season like he just had will get him going.

the difference was that:

Spencer was given an shot b/c Dallas released Ellis.
Jenkins was given a shot (as was Scandrick) b/c Dallas traded Henry.

Will Bennett get his chance b/c Jerry's gonna release or trade Witten? probably not.

What are the odds that he'll improve to the point where coaches will say "Hey, let's make him the #1 TE and Witten the #2 TE." ? If he can keep his pre-snap penalties down, he's already got a leg up on Witten....

I found this article about Jenkins the other day by accident

"Mike Jenkins did not have a good rookie season. Scandrick moved past him on the depth chart, and there were questions about his work ethic and attitude. There's no guarantee he's ready to start." from http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/030409dnspocownewsletter.2f463f5.html

But what did Jenkins do with his opportunity? What did Spencer? While we're at it, what about Austin and Free? Sometimes the best way to get the most out of a guy is to throw him into the fire. All these guys stepped up...Bennett can (imo) if he's saddled with that burden of being a starter.

Indeed. I remember before this season Wade was lavishing all kinds of praise on Spencer and ditto for Romo when talking about Miles. However, the breakouts did not take place until sometime afterwards. First, the player just needs an opportunity, second the player has to remain relatively healthy, and last it just takes time.

Hell it took Barbie eons before he was able to contribute, the same for Bradie. That is why the tuna had the three year rule, fans should take the same stance...I know it is too much to ask.:laugh2:

Bennetts problem is that he does not appear to want to put in the work. Maybe that is only appearences but that is the way it looks.

"That's part of what I have to do - take a guy with talent that wants to work hard, which he did," Phillips said. "He came in more than two weeks before everybody else last year. That's why I'm disappointed more in myself than I am with him. We've got to - I've got to - find a way to help him get better within the whole scheme. Now we still had a prolific offense. We still scored a lot of points. We were third in the league in offense. It wasn't like it just killed our offense not to have that production, but I think we can have more with him, and that's part of what we have to do as coaches."

This is wrong. It doesn't matter where Dallas was offensively in the regular season when the playoffs begin. Out the window it goes, IMO. He needs to stop leaning on that crutch.

Secondly, yes it did kill our offense.......post season. Having only one go to receiver SUCKS. Period. Minny has two great receivers and that, IMO, was the difference in the ball game. They made plays. Our one guy did not.

I dont think I have ever heard Jerry call out a player for his lack of work ethic in the media. He needs to grow up and realize it takes hard work to be successful in life, you can get by on talent alone in college but guys like him come and go in the pros every day.

I agree. I think that is a lesson allot of young players have to learn. You can get by on raw skills in college in the pros it takes so much more than that.

I think Bennett read a lot of his own press clippings in training camp when everyone was marking him down for 800 yards and 6 TDs. Think he figured all he had to do was show up.

Its too bad, the guy could not ask for a better mentor in the whole league in Witten, and he's blowing it. Even Celek on the Eagles is paying more attention to Witten then Bennett.

IF Bennett had the work ethic and dedication of Witten, with all the physical talent he has, he could be an ALL TIME TE. But he does not have it. The question is does he have ENOUGH to make a good TE.

I would not disagree with that. The upside is he is still at the start of his career as he will being entering his 3rd season. I still feel he has the talent and skill to be a very good player and hopefully this season opened his eyes that it is going to take more on his part to be the player I'm sure he wants to be.

Martellus Bennett needs to get to business

Jerry Jones has a message for Martellus Bennett: it's time to get down to business.

After seeing Anthony Spencer and Mike Jenkins improve greatly in 2009, Jones believes Bennett can make significant strides if he puts his mind to it.

"There's a big difference in the down to business of those two guys. Spencer has been down to business since he walked in the door," Jones said. "Bennett can get down to business. I know that he can ... The bottom line is, we all see what a tremendous weapon he is and can be. His blocking is really as impressive as his ability to be a big target for [Tony] Romo. I'm confident he sees that. He's extremely smart. He can get it. I think focus would be the word. He will get a lot more Tweets if he's a big-time ballplayer than he will just off of his creative ability."

Bennett was largely a non-factor in his second year, catching 15 passes for 159 yards and no touchdowns after having a tremendous training camp. Bennett missed two games with a concussion and saw his playing time cut by John Phillips. However, he had two catches in the divisional loss to Minnesota.

Jerry Jones banking on Roy Williams' improvement

That Roy Williams will be back in 2010 should not be a surprise or even a question, although I'm sure it upsets some of you after his less-than-spectacular season. But owner and general manager Jerry Jones acknowledged Williams' contract is "a major consideration," that plays a part in the decision.

Williams is due a $9.5 million roster in March that is guaranteed.

But Jones remains confident Williams' numbers will improve in 2010.

"You look at how he came early and stayed late, tried to improve, looked for ways to maximize his value," Jones said. "All of those things are a major consideration. His contract is a major consideration. You look at that. Do you compromise your football team? No. No. I've done far more than that financially in thinking at the time I've compromised the football team. I do not think that is the case with Roy as I sit right here. I do not think that is the case. We've got a player that has the will and has the ability."

And Jones puts his optimism in Williams on Wade Phillips' ability to get players to fill roles.

"Wade has a skill," Jones said. " Let me just say this: One of the No. 1 things I was told about Wade from people that had worked with him in teams he'd been with - he knows what a football player looks like. But he knows in a way that you don't see on ESPN or you don't see on scouting reports or you don't see sometimes even with scouts. He can see some things that they do well and how the offense or defense can be tailored to fit those things. Bobby Carpenter, this year. He can take the skills and put them in that spot, so consequently I really value Wade when we're drafting. I value his opinion on what a football player can be, because it can go beyond what you normally might see. Even production of players. Consequently, it's one of the reasons, and I must say, it's one of the reasons I'm excited about him being our head coach."

And Phillips' reaction?

"That's part of what I have to do - take a guy with talent that wants to work hard, which he did," Phillips said. "He came in more than two weeks before everybody else last year. That's why I'm disappointed more in myself than I am with him. We've got to - I've got to - find a way to help him get better within the whole scheme. Now we still had a prolific offense. We still scored a lot of points. We were third in the league in offense. It wasn't like it just killed our offense not to have that production, but I think we can have more with him, and that's part of what we have to do as coaches."
