DMN Blog: Jimmy Johnson at Cowboys practice/Roy Williams' response to LaRon Landry

Considering the Commanders lost, were the comments inappropriate?

"Not at all," Williams said. "When you've won two or three games that's what happens. It's just frustration with himself, with the team and the way things have been going. You envy others on winning ballclubs doing the things they're supposed to do. I'm just going to continue my job. God bless the young man, him and his family and his football team."

I have to say in Roy's defense, it would help if just every once in awhile the ball hit him in the chest. I don't think I've ever seen a particular receiver get more balls thrown to him all over the place so consistently. High, low, behind him, way ahead of him. And what is uncanny about it, is that Tony may miss a few throws to all the receivers, but not nearly as much as he does to Roy.

Part of me thinks that this wasn't really intended as the zing it came out as. I think part of it was a little sympathetic, a little "I feel you, bro."

Wow.... NICE!!

Now... you are talking the talk.... now walk the walk.

HAHA Great response!

I hope RW scores 2 TD's while Laron is chasing him next time. SOB

I was going to say, Roy needs to keep quiet and play like he is the man Jerry Jones gave a bundle of money to and dropped a bunch of picks.

Just walk the walk . . . no talking.

That was my take as well. I truly think he was trying to be diplomatic. But who knows? Its tough to catch the tone in print sometimes.

"If that was the case, I'd have alligator arms going across the middle twice," Williams said regarding his bruised ribs. "But I'm not like that. I'm a guy that goes across the middle and catches the ball if I can, you know, and the one that they're giving me a drop on because it hit both my hands, it hit my fingertipes, but Im barely hanging onto the ball, that would have been a tough catch if I would have caught it."

Wow, just WOW! Talk about clueless!

Roy Williams responds to LaRon Landry

IRVING -- Following Sunday's Cowboys-Commanders game, Commanders safety LaRon Landry said Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams played scared.

Well, Williams responded to those comments before Cowboys' practice on Wednesday.

"You get frustrated with yourself and your team and the way things are going and you envy others who are on winning ballclubs and are doing things they're supposed to do," Williams said. "So, I'm just going to continue to do my job. God bless the young man, him and his family and his football team. I don't buy into the comments, I don't do anything, just going to continue to play our game."

That seems to be a problem for the Cowboys of late. Coach Wade Phillips was questioned about Williams' playing status on Monday and dismissed any notion he would bench the wide receiver.

But Williams had zero catches on Sunday and for the most part has played inconsistent since the Cowboys traded for him last season.

"I was a little upset with the way [the passes] was coming to me a little bit," Williams said. "I did my best to stretch out, lean and fall and do all kinds of things to catch a ball, but you're going to have those types of games. I've never had a zero reception game where I've played the whole game, but we came out with the win, and that's what I told my teammates."

Williams said his ribs are fine and that he's not worried about going over the middle to catch a pass. There is this perception that Williams won't stretch out over the middle of the field to catch a pass. On Sunday against the Commanders, Williams failed to make three high balls, two of which with defenders near him.

I don't know about you guys but the guy gets paid some good coin to be a difference maker and catch those tough catches. If it was easy everyone would do it.

his comebacks when trash talking with opponents are better than his comebacks on the field.

Like the response,

Hate the damn Excuses for his play.

Tough catches blah blah.

Bennett had a few tough catches in that game. Got rocked in the back on one catch. Slow to get up , but, got up and made another tough catch late in the game.

Shut the mouth and catch the ball.

Wait till you listen to the rest of his interview. Says when Romo throws high to Austin, it’s Tony fault. When Romo throws high to him...it’s his fault.

"Everybody has my back, my friends and my family..they say it's not fair, but I think it's fair, it's whatever, everybody is entitled to their own opinion."

About winning on Thanksgiving and against the Commanders:

"I'm on a 1-0 start here, also back to LaRon Landry I'm 2-0 against the Commanders *smile* as a Dallas Cowboy, so...but 1-0 on Thanksgiving so hopefully that streak can continue."

On the differences between Detroit and Dallas:

"When I played with Detroit, teams looked at us as a bye week, thats an easy win, but as the Cowboys we have the target on our back week in and week out and we understand that and we take that to heart and we're a good football team. As long as defense continues to play the way they've been playing, the offense will have to get better on third down thats what been stalling our drives out, we'll be a really good football team."

On practices:

"Our practices are great, balls on point, catching it, running it, doing the things that we're supposed to do and then we get in the game and-the past two weeks have been good, just this past game was a little off, on both our parts-not just blaming Tony-on both our parts and we've just got to be consistent."

"I don't beg for the ball, I don't beg for different things, I just do my part and that's just whatever it may be."

On the short week:

"I think the only thing we need to improve on is holding onto the ball. I fumbled two weeks ago, Marion fumbled this week, you know crucial fumbles and third down. Third downs weren't very good and these third downs were actually manageable...We have to get better on third downs and keep these drives going."

My sentiments as well. Will be rooting for Roy to improve this season after those comments.

Yep... Roy's been where Landry is now. Washington is the new Detroit.
