Only a fool would trade Tony Romo for Jay Cutler

Jean-Jacques Taylor E-mail News tips

Jay Cutler wants out of Denver and has asked the Broncos to trade him. Many of you seem to think swapping Tony Romo for Cutler is a great idea.

It's not.

Actually, it's a horrible idea.

Consider this: What has Jay Cutler ever done? Nothing.

He has a great arm, but he's never led the Broncos to the playoffs. Don't forget, they choked away a three-game lead with three games to play last season, and he throws dumb interceptions with regularity because of his unwavering faith in his powerful right arm.

Yes, Romo can be frustrating with his gun-slinger mentality and the turnovers it produces. And you wish he'd be more of a leader since, ultimately, that's the quarterback's job.

And despite his foolish comments after the Philadelphia loss in December, I believe football is important to Romo and he wants to win.

The question with Romo has never been talent. He has plenty of that. You don't throw 81 touchdowns with 46 interceptions and have a passer rating of more than 90 in three consecutive seasons by accident.

Plus, he has been to the playoffs twice in three seasons as a starter.

For now, Cutler is as overrated as they come. And the meltdown he's having because the Broncos listened to offers for him shows he has no mental fortitude.

He has not yet earned the right to feel disrespected after going 17-20 in his first 37 games as a starter. He has 45 touchdowns and 37 interceptions in the last two seasons.

Is that special?

Cutler went to the Pro Bowl after last season. So what. A lot of over-hyped, overrated players make the Pro Bowl.

Right now, Cutler is mad because his feelings are hurt. He's too sensitive to be a championship quarterback.

Not every player can handle the scrutiny that comes from playing quarterback in Dallas. It's real because Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach are such a big part of our community.

There's no way Cutler could handle playing quarterback here. Romo, you hope, is just now figuring it out.

There's no need to give up on him for Cutler, who's been throwing an extended pity party.

ROMO is our leader--....PERIOD

Concurrence. There are obviously things I would like to see Romo improve but any idea of a trade for Cutler would be asinine. IMO...

Who hacked into JJT's pc and created this article???

No stuff. This is a product of the zone, no question about it. That lock down is taking its toll, lol.

This article would seem a bit more credible if it weren't coming from JJT

I went through every team in my head, and the rumor of Cutler for Quinn and a player seems to make the most sense.

Quinn played well enough to win his first two starts with the Browns, then had a tough game trying to play with the broken finger, which really skewed his statistics. He was put on IR after that game. He will be entering his third season, and came from an offense run by Weis, who is very familiar with McDaniels and will probably run the same offense. Out of all the other QB's that may be available for trade, Quinn makes the most sense for Denver.

From Cleveland's point of view, it may be tough. Quinn is already so popular in Cleveland, he could eventually rival Bernie Kosar in the hearts of Cleveland fans. His jersey's sell like hot cakes and he is from Ohio originally. Unless you are going to get a much better QB, it probably isn't worth the public relations issues. I, for one, am not sure tha when it is all said and done, that Quinn won't be the better QB.

The only plus to that trade that I could see from Cleveland's point of view, is Cutlers arm strength in reference to throwing into that wind in Cleveland. Quinn has average NFL QB arm strength, and makes his living with his timing, leadership, and intelligence....similar to a Brady or Montana type QB. Cutler's fast ball would be much more effective in the strong wind conditions in Cleveland in the winter. Denver has the winter, but not the winds that Cleveland has.

From McDaniels point of view, he may actually want Quinn, and has manilulated this situation to make Cutler look like tha bad guy, forcing the trade, to get Quinn and another good player. I'm sure he and Weis have been in contact.

Cutler will be with Denver a hell of lot longer then McDanials will be.

I can't believe Bowlen even contemplating letting him go!

In the words of Mike Tyson, "LUDICROUS!!!!"

I now regret listing Cutler as a QB I'd (potentially) swap for Romo, straight up. This guy is clearly not a leader, and woe to the team that can only see his physical gifts and nothing else.

For everyone and JJT who defend romo's lack of performance because of the defense, if Cutler didnt have one of the worst ranked defenses but instead had the Cowboys D from the last few years, then Denver definately would be in the playoffs. So to say Cutler is a choker while romo isnt when Cutler has a horrible defense, its whats foolish, and hypocritical.

But Cutler is a big whinybaby who is just like romo. Both might put up nice stats, but both have accomplished squat so far. But Cutler didnt come into a situation like romo where he got to sit on the bench with a talented team. Cutler was a high first round pick who was thrown into the fire, who now thinks he has some sense of entitlement, and unless your a Manning, Brady, or big Ben, any qb is trade bait.

Cutler replaced Plummer, who had taken them to the AFC championship game and gotten the Cardinals only playoff win at the time in many years against the Cowboys. So if the Bronchos can replace a qb like Plummer who was young and had accomplished quite a bit with a rookie, why cant Dallas do it with romo? The answer is they could, and probably should.

I think Romo's attitude is very conducive to handling QB'ing America's Team

he just doesn't let anything faze him for too long

wish he would be more commanding in the huddle, but I've seen him yell at his Olineman though, so the inkling to command is there

I still am trying to figure out what exactly Romo has won to make him such a god.

Three years with a mega talented team and he has yet to win ONE single playoff game.

Guess people forget he had his own slip in leadership during one weekend in Cabo.

To me he is nothing more than Drew Brees lite...until he wins a meaningful game in late December/January....time is ticking Tony.

Hey JJT you should stop hiding behind your articles and just post here on the Zone because obviously you read the boards.

Might as well introduce yourself along with the rest of your media crew who read the Zone.

Great article (because I agree with it... crazy coincidence).

Despite the media's portrayal, Romo has the right mentality to be the Cowboys franchise QB.

He's not easily rattled and he's competitive as hell. Oh, and really freakin' talented to boot. In Tony I trust.

Cutler's a baby. "Waaah! They wanted to trade for Matt Cassel!"

You'd think this guy was as proven as Tom Brady by the way he's acting. Jay: you haven't done anything.

You have a new coaching staff and they're not sold on you? Then PROVE to them your worth.

Crying to them and the media about how unfairly you're being treated is exactly how a loser would handle the situation. Way to show your colors, Jay!

I've been laughing at those who would trade for Cutler since the very first thread. They clearly don't understand football outside of Madden. The cap hits would be outrageous and not worth any perceived improvement at the position. I don't believe there is an improvement at the position. I like Cutler, but I'd take Romo any day.

Blame the Defense and him being a crappy holder.

the only person who would be truly happy with the switch would be McCordsville Cowboy

he'll be screaming championship the live, long day, I can see it now:

"Cutler can throw a 50-yard out on a rope, CHAMPIONSHIP!!1ZLHrtBradyZ"
