The Cowboys' initial answer to the question about how to replace Kyle Kosier is plugging in Pat McQuistan at left guard.
McQuistan is working there with the first team during today's practice, which was open to the media for only the first 30 minutes (routine procedure from here on out). McQuistan has played primarily right tackle for the Cowboys, but he has worked some at guard.

cant say I am not suprised. I am disapointed that marten is not good enough to go win this job. That has to be a setback for this team.

3rd round draft choice or not, it looks to me as though Marten has no place on this team.

Too slow for left tackle, not strong enough for right tackle and gets pushed around at guard.

What else is there?

Sometimes the biggest mistake you can make is not recognizing that you made one and correcting it.

Agreed. But then there are always the exceptions like former Jags WR Jimmy Smith that are hard to take. Is it tougher to take to hang onto a guy too long (Drew Henson) or tougher to stomach when you let a guy go too early and he becomes successful with another franchise?

As far as team success, not sure, but thinking about what could have been kind of sucks. Fortunately, I can't think of that happening too many times to this franchise.

I've got a question. What exactly tells you, someone that has probably seen him play 10 plays total, that he is a bust that doesn't tell people that actually watch him everyday?

Another 6-6 315 guy on our line. This is one big offensive line. These games will provide Pat with some valuable experience.

The Cowboy's Website have Kosier at 294. Is that true? I thought he was at least 305.

I can only go by what I see and what I read about him in practice.

That is the information I have.

If you have some evidence to the contrary I would love to see it.

And while I feel he may be a bust, for better or worse, I don't expect the team to pull the plug on him so soon, despite whether or not I feel they should.

They held onto guys like Rogers and Peterman too long too.

Flozell Adams says it takes time to adjust to new left guard

Jean-Jacques Taylor E-mail News tips

Flozell Adams, a man of few words, told me this afternoon that it's not a big deal to get used to a new left guard - starter Kyle Kosier is out for at least six weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot - as long as the guy is a good player.

Notice, he didn't say great player. Or even a really good player. Essentially, Adams just wants to make sure the guy can hold his own.

That said, there is an adjustment period because Adams must get used to how his new guard - Joe Berger, Pat McQuistan or Corey Procter - handles stunts and combination blocks. He must make sure they're on the same page, when Andre Gurode changes the blocking scheme at the line of scrimmage and a bunch of other little things like that.

"It's going to be an adjustment," Adams said, "but it won't be anything like 2002. Larry (Allen) got hurt that year and we must have used five guys - and some of them were coming off the street. Now, that was hard."

It's time for me to find the real fans. The Cowboys used five guards in 2002, including a stretch of six different starters in a seven-week period.

Can you name the five starters the Cowboys used in 2002? The answer will be unveiled at 6 p.m.

I'm not sure there will be a prize other than personal pride, though I might be able to get Tim Cowlishaw to autograph a game program from this week;s game.

They did? Who exactly did they have to replace them? I'm sure they keep the best players they can get their hands on without breaking the bank for a backup. I think you're slightly confused on what is possible. Teams don't keep less talented players when better players can be hand for the same price.

:laugh2: However one could argue that they could have drafted others after a year or two. And if they do use that argument, you can just say...they did draft some more after a couple of years.

The point is as you said. You don't get rid of guys on a roster that might not be up to par, if you can't get better at a similar or reasonable price.

We got money tied up in Gurode, Flo and Big that is a huge amount and it was not a cheap contract for the guy who just got hurt.

So We drafted some (peterman and jacobs). They did not pan out, try drafting some more Free, McQuistan, Marten. Maybe one or two of those guys pan out.

If McQuistan pans out as a backup and free pans out as a future starter down the road at OT...so be it if the higher drafted player, Marten, does not.

Ok...I am rambling now.

That line was a mess all season long. I will guess Ross Tucker, Tyson Walter, Char-ron Dorsey, Matt Lehr, Jeremy McKinney.

Edit: Looks like I threw some tackles in there. I'll have to try to remember who else we had on our roster.

Pat McQuistan is pretty big. He is 6'6 315, i would hope that would make that side a mauling battering ram like on Biggs side.

Sorry, but I misplaced my 2004-2007 preseason rosters.

The point is that just because Marten was drafted in the 3rd round shouldn't guarantee him anything.

If he can't get the job done and someone else can, he should be gone.

Again, do you have an evidence at all they he has done well?

If so, I'd honestly like to see it.
