Sorry, but I misplaced my 2004-2007 preseason rosters.

The point is that just because Marten was drafted in the 3rd round shouldn't guarantee him anything.

If he can't get the job done and someone else can, he should be gone.

Again, do you have an evidence at all they he has done well?

If so, I'd honestly like to see it.

Stash,

The only things I remember reading on Martin this year was that he did put on some quality weight this off-season.

Martin mentioned that after his rookie TC that his weight got down to something like 280 lbs (in that region), and that he just wasn't strong enough.

I think this off-season he bulked up better, and I think Martin mentioned that he felt he could keep this weight on better during TC this time around.

As for how this strength/weight has translated into his play, I have no idea. I just haven't heard much on him for the past few weeks.

My gut says that Martin still isn't quite strong enough to battle quality DL. He probably needs another year - if he has what it takes at all.

Flozell Adams says it takes time to adjust to new left guard

Jean-Jacques Taylor E-mail News tips

Flozell Adams, a man of few words, told me this afternoon that it's not a big deal to get used to a new left guard - starter Kyle Kosier is out for at least six weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot - as long as the guy is a good player.

Notice, he didn't say great player. Or even a really good player. Essentially, Adams just wants to make sure the guy can hold his own.

That said, there is an adjustment period because Adams must get used to how his new guard - Joe Berger, Pat McQuistan or Corey Procter - handles stunts and combination blocks. He must make sure they're on the same page, when Andre Gurode changes the blocking scheme at the line of scrimmage and a bunch of other little things like that.

"It's going to be an adjustment," Adams said, "but it won't be anything like 2002. Larry (Allen) got hurt that year and we must have used five guys - and some of them were coming off the street. Now, that was hard."

It's time for me to find the real fans. The Cowboys used five guards in 2002, including a stretch of six different starters in a seven-week period.

Can you name the five starters the Cowboys used in 2002? The answer will be unveiled at 6 p.m.

I'm not sure there will be a prize other than personal pride, though I might be able to get Tim Cowlishaw to autograph a game program from this week;s game.

This is true, but you don't get drafted in the 3rd round unless you have something. A third round pick has real value. You don't just toss it out after the first year. Sometimes it takes a few years for a player to realize his talent. Andre Gurode was drafted in 2002 and was battling with Al Johnson to be the team's center in 2005. By the team 2006 rolls around he becomes a Pro Bowler. So in a sense it took Dre four years to even come close to completing his development.

So.. the smallest guy on the line is now 6-5?... umm. wow.. might have to get Romo some platforms soon.

I think McQuistan can get it done.. it will be interesting to see. People have been interested in seeing someone step in for Kosier for a while .. since he is kind the quiet blue collar guy of the group that you never hear much about... well now we'll see.

That illustrates my point.

Just because Marten got drafted in the third round doesn't make him any good. It's quite possible that the Cowboys missed completely on him, just like they did with a guy like Jacob Rogers. He was drafted in the second round and was an absolute bust. Draft position does not indicate talent.

And likewise, sometimes - like Rogers and Peterman, that day never comes.

The next good news I hear about Marten will be the first.

I bet you Kosier never gets his job back.

It takes a little optimism, but hey, wouldn't that be great?

Look at the bright side, maybe McQ blossoms and we have a new young player taking over.

I think we should pull McQ a lot, as well as he can run. Power sweep on Bigg and Marc's side, with McQ pulling and Death Stryker 1 leading Mb3? Any defenders want to take that on?

I'm looking forward to seeing how McQuistan performs. Although it is unfortunate that Kosier is hurt, it'll be cool to see McQuistan get his chance.

Here's hoping that he's more than equal to the task.

I get a headache just thinking about it. :laugh2:

Even though we here in Denver aren't among the privileged who actually got to see this past weekend's game (nor on NFL Replay, apparently, what is that all about?!?!?), from the highlights I did see, our offensive line was putting a serious hurting on some folks. We get road-grader types of performances like that, and we're writing our ticket to Tampa.

Rodgers is out of football as far as I know but Peterman is the starter in Detroit. So there is that.

Talk about your 'lesser of two evils'.........

I can't understand how James Marten was drafted higher than Doug Free in the first place. I thought that was a horrible draft pick at that point.

McQuistan. He's played average to poor at Right Tackle this summer. Most had said he had leveled off and it was time for him to stop trying to be a Tackle.

Let's hope he's a better Guard.

Pat is real athletic. I remember last year when the bears blocked a FG and the guy picked the ball up and started running down the field Big Pat came out of nowhere and pushed the guy out of bounds saving what would have been a TD

I'm hoping, but McQ looks like more of a finesse player to me.

The guy of guy who takes the hit rather than makes the hit.

I think McQ's ideal spot is as a backup LT. I think the more physical the job requirements, the more he will struggle.

I've seen guys like Artis Hicks and Todd Herremans struggle in the same way for the Eagles. I think both would be good to very good left tackles but both are overmatched at guard.

We'll see if McQuistan is better or worse at that spot.

Plus leading Miles on that TD return in the Seattle playoff game.

I don't know about "nimble", but he can run.

Pat McQuistan is pretty big. He is 6'6 315, i would hope that would make that side a mauling battering ram like on Biggs side.

I agree and I think McQ can handle the job. Infact, I wouldn't be suprised if Kosier didn't get his job back.. Just sayin!!! Also, McQ is a HH type guy, Big strong mauler. McQ is gonna be perfect...
