He is a young 24 year old kid who is still on the squad and had a decent camp behind Pro Bowl players.

and more importantly

He is not a 6 year Veteran who ate his way of 3 rosters and has not shown anything in 3 years.

Still looking for that positive news on Marten?

Not getting my hopes up though.

:laugh2: Ok .... give up on the 24 year old kid who was drafted last year.

I would like to hear the negative news on him from the coaching staff.

Not Tim MacMahon.

Good luck with that.

You never heard it about Rogers and Peterman while they were here either.

Teams don't make it a habit of admitting mistakes until after they've corrected them.

And as for the backhanded comments about Fonoti, at least the guy has started in this league. And at one time, he was a very good one. And I thought it convenient that you'd bring up Marten being 24 years old while no mention was made of Fonoti being just 26 years old.

You show me a sentence that ever contained the words 'starter' and 'Marten' connected to one another.

This guy has already bounced around from tackle to guard and back again, failing to distinguish himself anywhere.

I could care less where he was drafted or how old he is. He's shown nothing in the time he's been here and if I had the opportunity to replace him I would without hesitation.

So you admit that you are only going by the beat writers and have no clue about how the coaching staff feels about him.

Sweet.

I for one have absolutely nothing invested in this kid ..... Do not know him .... never followed him in college ..... could care less if he is cut tomorrow or not.

But giving up on a second year lineman because he is not getting playing time working behind Flo and Colombo seems a little silly to me.

He was a good one in college ...... so was Marten

His NFL career has been a huge (literally) disappointment

The guy weighs almost 400 pounds ...... he is thought to be the heaviest guy who has ever played Pro Ball.

That kid has serious problems and could probably not beat out any of our scrubs including Marten.

What about when he can't get in front of guys named McQuistan, Procter, and Berger?

I can only go by the information I've seen.

How many personal scouting trips to Oxnard and Valley Ranch have you taken?

As I said before, it's not about him beating out Adams or Colombo, but being capable of playing. He hasn't shown that he's capable in any way. Not at tackle, not at guard.

And yet, just this offseason, he was the starting right guard for the Panthers, just recently losing the starting job to Keydrick Vincent.

Again, name me one time the possibility of Marten even contributing, much less starting happened.

Fonoti has shown he can play at the NFL level and it looks like he's putting past struggles behind him.

Marten thus far has shown that he can't.

You have already admitted that you do not know what he has shown.

No one here knows including me.

When and if they cut him is when I will consider him a bust.

I cannot believe people have given up on Marten and Free after one year.

You would think that most would learn their lessons after righting off the likes of Bradie, Marcus, etc.

I keep preaching that football is a maturation process but a select few don't want to listen. Oh well...

He was playing guard and is not even in the running to replace Kosier, but instead being moved back to tackle.

What does that tell you?

That's fine.

And I'm not demanding the guy get cut if the team is unable to obtain a capable replacement.

If they can't there's no sense in cutting a guy who could still be developing and who at least knows your system.

But if a better option presents itself, I would have no qualms if the team cut its' losses and replaced him.

Again, he's shown nothing at guard or tackle to this point and no evidence points to the contrary.

Just wondering, were you preaching that same line when Jacob Rogers and Stephen Peterman were here?

Tells me he is a young guy who they have not decided what his best spot is yet.

He is listed as a Tackle on the Cowboys official site ..... seems to me that they are just trying to find a way for him to get some playing time.

What has happened to the 3 year rule?

I was ..... I admit it.

But those guys were injured so I do not think that applies in this case.

I don't know where it's written where a player has to get 3 years.

Skyler Green was able to show he couldn't play pretty quickly and the team cut its' losses with him, in that case the only regret is that they drafted him at all.

I think it all depends on the player.

It seems to me that Marten is:

a) Too slow to play left tackle

b) Not strong enough for right tackle or guard

c) Not entitled to a roster spot simply because he was a third round draft choice

If the team has a better option they should take it.

Absolutely. You win some and you lose some but you at least give yourself an opportunity to gather more information so you can make an informed decision.

Furthermore, just because maturation is a huge part of players getting acclimated to the NFL especially Olinemen, it is not the only part. In some cases the player don't have the heart or the health to play.

If we gave up on every player that shown poorly is just one year then we wouldn't have much of a roster.

In most cases if you wait at least 3 years you will know what you have. I am just glad that Jerruh and co don't suffer from the same know it all knee jerk reaction that you do.

Well of course ..... thats just it though .... and my whole point.

Apparently HH does not see anyone better ...... which leaves me to believe that Marten is not doing so bad and they see potential.

Now watch him get released tomorrow :laugh2:

And I will gladly eat a big plate of Crow.
