So many players have bowed out of the Pro Bowl because of either injury, lack of interest or there in the Super Bowl in two weeks, but when Jerry Jones called Mike Jenkins on Monday there was no chance the Cowboys' cornerback was going to pass on the all-star game.

Jenkins expressed some frustration via Twitter when he was not named as the second alternate when Terence Newman was picked. But with Antoine Winfield bowing out, Jenkins is now getting ready for Sunday's game.

"I just want to get out with the elite guys," Jenkins said. "I'm looking forward to it. I feel like I'm at home right now."

Jenkins works out in the Miami area in the off-season but he is living across the state in Tampa right now.

"I'm going to enjoy myself this week," Jenkins said.

Jenkins is going to be a great corner for years for us. The kid has turned it on after his rookie season.

Jenkins is the 3rd best cornerback we've home grown since Everson Walls. He could be our best ever if he continues to rapidly improve. I rate our top 4 modern era Cornerbacks
1. Everson Walls
2. Kevin "Pupp" Smith (could of been all time great if he didnt tear his achilles)
3. Mike Jenkins
4.Terrence Newman

Normally do not care about the Pro Bowl game but actually looking forward to seeing Jenkins and Miles out there.

Mike Jenkins is my favorite player. I love the way he plays the game. He's hard working and passionate.

Newman has been better than Smith ever was, and Jenkins isn't yet at the level Newman was at a few years ago.

You think so? I think Jenkins has that extremely rare ability to look for the INT without actually giving up on tight coverage, which puts him above where Newman ever was.

What does "home grown" mean to you? Drafted/signed for the Cowboys originally?

In any case, Mel Renfro should be at the top of that list. He was a multiple pro bowler at corner too.

Yep. Jenkins' 2009 would have been a down season for Newman during his 32ish game no TD allowed streak.

I think Jenks showed this year that he is better than Newman ever was. Some of the plays that he made I never saw Newman make since he was drafted. Now, Newman did start to play better late in the year...maybe some friendly competition got him going.

What sticks out in my mind is the 300 yards and 0 touchdowns allowed vs. Newman in 2005 (I think it was 2005).

I'd be interested to see what Jenkins stats for this year.

According to profootballfocus.com he gave up 50 of 99 passes (50.5%) for 585 yards, 2 TDs, and 5 INTs.

That's an opponent QB rating of 54.5. Maybe not as good a year as Newman's best year, but it's pretty damn good.

Yep, real good. And he's only going to get better.

You do know that the Dallas Cowboys played football before 1981 don't you?

Which year of Newman's career are we talking? I'm no T-new hater but Jenkins had a better season this year than Newman ever had IMO. In fact, Newman's career has been kind of up and down.

To have a "level" of play requires a baseline of performance and Newman has never really had one. He's a well above average CB but Jenkins is a better player already than Newman at ANY time in his career.

Newman > Pup agreed, but this is closer than you would have it sound. Newman's had a few extremely POOR seasons.
