Tim MacMahon may be on vacation, but that doesn't mean he won't stop delivering Cowboys news to the masses as it happens.

It appears that Mike Jenkins has been given the starting right cornerback position over Orlando Scandrick entering training camp. At least that what Jenkins is saying on his blog.
"Heading into training camp I'm the starter at right cornerback, and my job is to maintain that position. I'm back in Florida training at IMG to get my body right, get my head right, be mentally ready heading into the season. ...

It's my job to lose, but there's a guy behind me with nothing to lose. If he makes a mistake, it's not going to cause him to lose his job. If I make a mistake, the coaches are going to take a long, hard look at me in that position."

It might not be anything official but just how he views the situation. Regardless, he seems to have a great attitude and not being over confident or taking the position for granted.

well, can't say I think that is a bad thing to have a young guy looking over his shoulder, either way it turns out we are a better team.

I think Jenkins may be okay, but I gotta say I lean towards Scandrick as having the most upside. His reaction to the ball is phenomenal and he doesn't play sacred.

I also don't think it matters who wins the starting job because with Newman it's not a matter of it, but what game he goes down for awhile. I'm really encouraged by the way the CB position is turning out.

what a nice "problem" to have. i remember the days when we had not one NFL caliber corner.

Times are changing.

I remember when reporters interviewed players and wrote stories. Full-length features.

Now, they surf the 'net and copy and paste from blogs and Twitter.

It's 2009, welcome to the future! Doesn't mean there aren't still guys writing stories.

Ain't it a trip? And you have to know that the cowboy zone is their one stop shopping spot for material. We are a regular Wally world, lol.

I'd like to think we're the Tarjhay of the Cowboys messageboards.

I know what you mean. The readers for feature-length articles just aren't there though.

One of the reasons the declining sales of Sports Illustrated is so troubling for me... even though I don't like some of their writers.

they call them all 1000 and 2000 levels now

because kids didn't feel like 100 was good enough anymore and egos needed to be stroked.

you old man you

I'd say he's pretty spot on with what he says there. He probably does walk in as the starter, at camp, and it's his position to lose. He'd better believe that Orlando is going to be pushing him the entire way.

I see the kid doesn't lack for confidence. Courage on the field, yes, but not confidence.

Scandrick's major role last year was in the slot... that's where you'd often find your 3rd CB. Doesn't really matter whether he or Jenkins are "starting" -- both are going to play a lot.
