DMN Blog: NFL to Jerry Jones: Play was not reviewable

I was screaming for that. I was yelling where is the penalty for intentional grounding. Campbell got away with two of those. But that play should have been a penalty regardless because the ball didn't pass the LOS.

Same here. I need to replace my TV because it seemed no matter how loud I was yelling, those SOB acted like they did not hear a word I said. :laugh2:

The officials have been terrible all year long. They continue to miss obvious calls that impact games. This happens too often and the past three weeks it has increased against the better teams (trying to enforce parity).

If the league office was able to contact the refs about the delay of game penalty not counting how in the heck did they not say anything about the play not being reviewable? Looks like the league office(Mike Pereira) doesn't even know the rules.

:hammer: Bingo!

not the first time I have seen those throw aways outside the hashmarks thrown short and refs did not call them.

Wonder how those are getting overlooked. Think they are so focused on the part that says they must be outside the hashmarks that they forget they also have to go further than the line of scrimmage.

Isn't that what they called against Romo in the 2007 playoff game against the Giants...Sheesh.

I still do not understand how the delay of game penalty is not the same as running a play. Which means the play can not be reviewed.

i think thats the rule, because the refs called the penalty first, because the dumb refs up in the booth were slow to react on the call. After the penalty, delay of game, then the play wasnt reviewable, too late.

Dont quote me on that, but jerry jones said that the league office told him from the very start of the beginning, the play wasnt reviewable.

exactly, but due to the refs throwing a delay of game penalty, that threw everything out to be reviewable. I am not sure abou that, but jerry jones said something like that.

The most obvious boo boo in all of this, the NFL (Not fine LeanRefs) the league sent a memo to all the refs covering such a play like that. And the refs still missed it.

The DL retreated downfield and he followed him to maintain the block. That is legal.

Yup and I can pretty much assure there would be a flag on every scramble if lineman were called for maintaining there blocks.

Watch the video. That wasnt the guy kosier was blocking, that was the guy gurode was blocking, kosier ran down and cut him from the side.

I was just happy that Suishan got his Cowboys-kicker-itis back. He seemed to nail every kick against since we let him go.

I was happy. :D

this was the 06 redemption game.

I can't wait to see what indefensible complete screw up we get a letter from the league to apologize for next week...

Im pretty sure everyone in the stadium and at home watching on television knew this, except the refs.

"It's just not reviewable from the very beginning so they got to kick a field goal 15 yards closer (actually five) and it could have been really meaningful," Jones said. "As it turned out they missed it but still the play was not reviewable by rule. They just screwed that up."

Why does the writer insert that the losses were "actually five" (yards)? Dallas would have gotten the yardage for the sack plus 5 for delay of game. Was the sack for 0 lost yards?

I will not attempt to quantity how large the officiating problem currently is, both at the NFL and college level, but I will say two things. First, referees' inability for making correct judgment calls has become quite noticable during plays which they can see unobstructed. That shouldn't be the case. The speed of the game has grown faster each decade, but not to a level where routine calls should be second-guessed as often as they are now.

Secondly, it's entirely possible that the everyday official isn't sophisticated enough to process the information delivered to him by the instant replay technology. There are men 10 -15 years older than me (if just that) huffing-and-puffing up-and-down the field throwing flags every Sunday. I know professionals that age with multiple college degrees who have complained about their computer crashing on them--only to find out afterwards that they accidentally pulled the plug out of a wall outlet. It's possible that some officials, who plop their heads under the hood, may not fully utilize all the tools available to them (i.e. Zoom, Freeze Frame, etc.) to review REVIEWABLE penalties.

Excuse the rant, but it kinda nuts sometimes to watch network replays and wait for the official to basically say they didn't see what I plainly could. Sure, they may not have every single replay angle which the network might replay for viewers, but they are not devoid of all replay angles either.

The ineptness of those ref have my blood boiling still. I mean how can someone be that clueless and still have a job? I just don't understand that. There has to be accountability somewhere. The refs are REALLY starting to take away from my enjoyment of watching games. I cringe everytime I see a flag thrown. It's like the refs have more control over who wins the games than the players do.

And why do professional sport leagues insist on hiring overweight, part-time old timers with cataracts to govern the rules of the game and keep of with professional athletes? You mean to tell me that the league can't find 25-30 year olds to hire full time to stay in shape, study rules, and get on the same field as the NFL superstars? Seriously?

Man...give me $60k a year and I'm all over that job.

Amazing how easy it is to ref from in front of a TV, Hell I never miss a call.

Maybe the refs need to watch the TV version and call in their flags like everyone else then, because whatever they are doing now is not getting the job done.

should make all reviews come from the booth, if the man upsatirs see's something that should have the power to correct it. Hell the NFL can call to the ref durring the game maybe they should have a big palace with all the games on and red phones to take care of buisness.

The NFL is becoming more and more like the MLS, I love me some MLS but there are better refs at the local select level :eek:

i posted the salaries of refs before;
a ref with 5 years or more experience, each year with more experience increastes, but refs with 5 years or more start out at about 93,000 a year

some refs make as much as 100,000 to 200,000 a year;
