There is one serious perception issue about Romo. He's probably the most consistent good QB in the league. In the follwing list, games with a rating below 80 ("down" games) appear in red. "Up" games (120 or above) in green. The less color you see, the more consistent the quarterback.

E Manning (86.4) 61.1 131.4 88.2 136.6 57.1 77.5 87.9 95.8 81.5 73.3 127.3 88.5 73.5 43.9

Eli has had six sub-80 games, three 120+ games, and five in between

Breees (93.9) 124.9 69.8 110.2 116.7 68.2 144.4 61.0 121.9 66.9 88.4 157.5 60.2 99.7 67.2
Brees has had six sub-70 games, four 120+ games, and four in between.

Warner (97.5) 93.3 158.3 81.5 84.8 107.3 104.3 99.1 121.1 121.9 98.2 79.9 65.7 95.4 78.9
Warner has had 3 sub-80 games, 3 120+ games and 8 games in between. This makes him the most consistent NFC QB among those selected for the Pro Bowl this season.

P Manning (90.3) 81.8 72.6 59.0 101.0 134.7 46.6 73.5 121.9 95.8 99.9 92.5 46.8 134.0 110.0
Peyton has had 3 "up" games, 5 "down" games, and 6 games in between.

Favre (86.5) 125.9 85.6 92.5 123.7 73.9 47.8 76.0 73.7 117.7 119.4 103.6 60.9 60.8 71.4
Favre has had 2 up games, 7 down games, and 5 in between.

Cutler (88.2) 137.5 109.6 93.3 71.9 96.1 77.8 64.3 60.7 107.9 106.4 49.8 94.8 102.7 74.3
Cutler has had 1 up game, 6 down games, and 7 in between

Take your pick of Manning and Cutler as to which has been more consistent. Neither one compares to Romo...

Romo (98.3) 103.6 123.2 82.6 90.7 106.2 116.2 72.8 113.3 113.7 44.9 113.7
Romo has had 1 up game, 2 down games, and 8 in between.

Of the six Pro Bowl QB's, only one (Warner) has been nearly as consistent as Romo, with 8 games with a rating between 80 and 120. And Warner has three more starts than Romo!

Every one of the six Pro Bowl QB's has been more up-and-down than Romo this year. And every single one of them has a season rating lower than Romo's. So if you think Romo is up-and-down, what does that say about the rest of the league?

Great work as usual, percyhoward.

I hope Romo realizes that he no longer has to carry this team on his shoulders. We finally have a defense that is playing great that can definitely help carry some of the load. I think part of the problem before the last few months was that Romo felt like he had to carry the whole team and the defense wouldn't bail him out if he made mistakes. I'm much happier that our defense is playing great so now all Romo has to do is NOT make any stupid mistakes and we win. Hope that made sense. All jmho.

I agree.

As good as Romo is... he can marginalized/neutralized. Defenses can defeat him and make him less effective with his Cowboys/risk taking approach.

Dare I say that he should be more like Roethlisburger... in this way only... and that is... manage the game better and we can go a long way. Let it go if its not there OR if there is a running lane.... get that first down instead of throwing that INT.

:lmao2: I think you're overreacting. Every defense thinks this in their mind. Of course every opponents goal is to get after Romo and make him uncomfortable.

Isn't that with every Quarterback?

Romo must be a lot more up than down. Look at his QB Rating.

Their defense is good, without a doubt, but this is nothing newsworthy. The Giants and Eagles use these same tactics against him every time he plays them.

The Cowboys will be ready. They know they're closing out Texas Stadium and they're in desperate need of getting a W this week to help themselves stay in the playoff hunt.

I love Romo, but if I am looking from Ray's point of view I am saying that Romo is up and down this season too.

We just need Romo to be 'up' on Saturday.

Huh???

How can people post here all the time, apparently talk football daily and yet be so clueless....

I dont mean to pick on you but this is a glaring example....

Tony Romo has 1, ONE, yes 1 game all year where he has a QB rating below 72. The Pittsburgh game. He also had 1 game of 72 and change and that was his first game back after injury. Other than that he has been over 80 every game he has played.

Romo has not been up and down. He has been between good and great all year. He has been excellent overall. He has a QB rating over 100 in 7 of the 11 games he has played in.

I understand Ray Lewis saying goofy things but supposed Cowboys fans here????

um, yea what Percy said... I should have learned by now not to get irate and respond before I read the entire thread:)

my bad!

But just to be clear, Romo had one horrid game all year against Pittsburgh in the muck against the top rated defense in football.

He had a very mediocre game against Washington but that was coming back off of injury.

I knew it was the case that he wasn't an "up and down" QB. Laughable notion, especially for people who watch the Cowboys weekly to believe. Thanks for the numbers and breakdown.

I wonder how such a blatant misconception becomes conventional wisdom so fast. :laugh2:

If telling the truth and making an honest observation is pointless and obvious, you are correct.

There's a literal universe of truthful and obvious things that can be said that aren't meaningful or interesting. Lewis' comment live somewhere in that boilerplate universe.

Ask the Cardinals how their idea to pressure Romo worked out. They generated turnovers by creating confusion with our line with stunts. And it is proven that Romo is not always Houdini under duress as he will make reckless throws occasionally and will fumble the football. Interior pressure, like with most quarterbacks, causes him problems. He can't be allowed to step up in the pocket. Pure edge rushing is a bit easier for him to handle because of his mobility.

That's the point, I guess. If the guys around Romo can be pressured, you put Romo in lower-percentage situations. Romo himself, though, outperforms most of the QBs in the NFL under pressure, so playing with a rush is actually one of his many strengths.

This just in - Ray Lewis' generic comments can be applied to any QB in the history of the game, ever.

The great ones, have more ups than downs. And none of them like pressure.

I agree to a certain extent. Romo, like most QB's, isn't very good at escaping the rush when it comes straight up the middle. Arizona road graded Gurode. I'm worried about Proctor and the inside rush as well. Romo can't step up inot the pocket if there isn't one and if he moves outside they'll probably be in contain mode on the edges. Arizona and Pitt called this well when needed and rushed well when needed. We need the protection or a pocket.

It's the truth, Romo makes mistakes and a lot of them. He also makes a lot of great plays. We just need to hope he can limit those mistakes and lead us to the W.

Ray Lewis is not the 1st person to say Romo is up and down, I believe Jessica Simpson made the same claim. :lmao:

Romo has 11 INTs on the entire season. That isn't making a lot of mistakes.

It is an occasional mistake. An occasional mistake like every QB who ever lived makes.

BTW... Ray Lewis' QB has a QB rating of 76.9 and has tossed 12 picks with only 11 TDS.

Now that is up and down.

7 QBs have more pass attempts than TR with fewer INTs on the year, of those 7 only Eli Manning has reached 20 TDs passing. And not a single passer with TR's 24 TDs or more has thrown for fewer INTs.
