With the Cowboys cutting Brad Johnson today, former Bears quarterback Rex Grossman expressed an interest in backing up Tony Romo.

"I would not be able to compete for the starting job there," Grossman told Sirius this afternoon. "My role would be to come in and back up. And if something were to happen to Tony there's no better offensive situation to be in in the league."

Nothing has transpired as yet between Grossman's agent and the Cowboys.
Here's more on what Grossman had to say about the Cowboys:

"They've got all the talent at running back, tight end, wide receiver, offensive line, coordinator. They've got everything in place that you'd want. Good weather, new stadium. I'm sure they are going to cover it if it is windy or cold. So that would be the ideal situation to back up. There may be a few others, I'm not sure, but that would be intriguing if I'm in a situation where I have to back up."

Is Rex Grossman a better backup than Brooks Bollinger? I would say so.

Well, he has won a playoff game :D

I think as a back-up he's fine.

We should still draft a rookie this year regardless.

We may have won the St Louis game and made the playoffs with Rex.

Rex would be an excellent back-up, he sure as hell is better than Brooks Bollinger.

I think so. That's a legit possibility, imo.

That... or he knows he isn't going to get a starting job this year. So come to Dallas for a year, hope Romo gets hurt, go in and play well with our weaponry, then cash in another opportunity for a starting role the following season.

He would be a solid option for a few games if needed. Depends on the $$$$$

I'm not going to give any credence to your theory.

Go cry in a corner.

I wouldn't mind Grossman at all, especially for the situation the Cowboys were in this past seaon for 3 games.

He was my favorite option for our back-up spot. Can make all the throws needed, and I think our system would make him look good. He's never thrown to a group of WRs as good as ours, and Chicago's line play has been poor the past couple of seasons. I think he'd be able to keep us in games if Romo went down.

he will add to the joking about this team instantly, but he is better than brooks. Didnt he call out wade wilson for being a bad coach in chicago though?

He knows Jerry will pay him better than some starting QBs after the fiasco last year.

I'm giving it credence.

Sounds like a logical possibility. AND if Romo does get injured, and he plays well, both he & the 'Boys are better off...

I thought he had.

But, hey, then he fits in fine here! :laugh2:
