iceberg, you've gotta be freakin' kidding me.
Roy is entering his 7th year. You don't think he KNEW OTAs were coming up!?
Maybe you're right and he didn't know the EXACT dates, but there is no way he didn't know they'd be sometime in mid-late May.
I'm sure if he asked Jerry, Jerry could've given him a much more specific time-table well in advance. I'm just a fan and even I knew that OTAs are something like a month after the draft.
He should've made his vacation plans with tentative dates, which could change depending on the OTA schedule. And like someone said, it's not like the OTA schedule was sprung on him a couple days ago. He had ample time to shift his vacation around his work schedule, the way people in the "real world" often do.
And if the rest of his family couldn't be flexible for whatever reason? Then, "So long, family, you guys have fun without me. I have to work that week." And he could've still funded their trip from afar.
I agree that the Roy bashing does go overboard at times. He is far from the worst starting safety in football.
But for a highly-paid player, who is coming off of a pretty bad year, to miss OTAs for something that's not injury or contract related... well, that does show a lack of dedication. Every other vet besides Hamlin and Glenn attended, and Hamlin/Glenn have much more legit reasons for this than Roy does.
