If you read Mosley and then McMahon they contradict each other.

Mosley said Hodge looked smooth and Johnson terrible and out of shape.

Read McMahon, Hodge is the bum and Johnson the steal.

Smelly holes indeed.

It makes you wonder which smelly hole stinks least.

No, it really doesn't... but you look into that, and get back to us with what you learn, OK?? :D

Between Gibbons and Matt Spanos, one of 'em HAS to rid us of the Procter Curse...

Don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.

McMahon said Hodge got abused. Wade Phillips said he pitched a "shutout".

It is so nice to hear that we get accurate reporting on something so simple.
interesting isnt it?

It will be a parade of clowns.

I find it angering that our stab at replacing the weakest link on our offensive line consists of taking Ryan Gibbons and trying to convert him.

Any news on how Ogletree did on his workouts at the rookie camp?

This is from Gil Brandt's article on NFL.com:

Two more rookies who opened eyes at practice were undrafted free-agent wide receiver Kevin Ogletree and linebacker Jason Williams, a third-round draft pick.

Ogletree was one of the best athletes at the NFL Scouting Combine, and in addition to his impressive physical tools, he flashed great ball skills and route-running ability at practice. Williams also made his mark and was outstanding in the bag and pursuit drills.

Thanks for the update. Ogletree is gonna take stanbacks spot hopefully.

He is an interesting player. I still have no idea why he dropped out of the draft. The Bears supposedly had him and Iglesias rated side-by-side.

Hopefully we have ourselves a sleeper, since we barely acknowledged the position otherwise.

This is only Stanback's second off-season. He gets another full year, I'm sure, regardless of what happens. If anything he and Manny are battling for Hurd's spot.

When Stanback stubs his toe and his foot falls off during training camp I'm sure that'll change.

No way. Stanback needs to perform in TC and the preseason this season. He can earn another year to develop, but it's not a given.

Hurd could be in a fight, but he's a better receiver and a better ST player than Stanback is right now.

Completely disagree. Miles Austin, who had much less of an excuse than Stanback, stunk it up royally in his 2nd offseason. And he didn't get the boot. It's just stupid personnel management to get rid of a project so early.

It depends how many slots you want to reserve for developmental WRs. You need three capable of playing in the NFL, and typically that 4th WR should be someone capable of stepping up in case of injury. That leaves one developmental slot unless you want to go heavy on WR.

If Stanback improves enough to challenge for that 4th spot, then fine. But he'd have to take a big step forward to displace Hurd in that regard, and even then he's still at a disadvantage b/c he doesn't play a coverage role on ST. Otherwise, he's competing to retain his developmental 5th WR role. He's got the inside track on that role, but if the team sees more potential in one of the young guys, he can definitely be unseated.

:hammer:

Hurd can step in as the number 3 if either Austin or Crayton get injured.

I don't think Stanback can right now.

IMO, that 5th and last WR spot is between Stanback, T Wilson, M Johnson, and Ogletree. But because we'll likely only keep 5 WRs on the 53 man roster, there's a chance we'll keep up to 2 WRs on the PS.

He's the 5th WR on the depth chart, competing for the 4th (possibly even 3rd next offseason). Keeping 5 receivers is a given. Keeping a 6th isn't unusual. Stanback doesn't have to challenge anyone to really keep his spot. This isn't a question of having too many good receivers.

Well, you don't know that's the case... look at the roster again, scroll down to one Matt Spanos... then go check out his college pedigree... now fully recovered from a torn triceps, he might be the most logical contender to replace Procter...
