The good news is that the X-rays on Sam Hurd's left leg were negative. The bad news is that he suffered a high left ankle sprain.

It was considered a minor medical miracle when T.O. came back from a high ankle sprain in three weeks to play in the Cowboys' playoff loss last season. Hurd, who will have an MRI to determine the severity of his sprain, hopes to play in the Sept. 7 season opener in Cleveland.

"Hopefully it only takes a couple days or maybe a week," said Hurd, who was wearing a protective boot. "I think I heal fast, and hopefully with the Lord's will, I can heal fast."

That's being awfully optimistic, but Hurd feels a tremendous sense of urgency due to the receiving corps' rash of injuries. Miles Austin (knee) is out for the opener, and Isaiah Stanback (shoulder) is doubtful.

"Miles' thing is very serious," Hurd said. "That's a knee, and a knee is something you don't want to play with. People get ankle sprains all the time and bounce back."

But they don't bounce back in a week from this kind of ankle sprain. However, the Cowboys are holding out hope that Hurd can.

"It'd be early to rule him out," Jerry Jones said. "I understand the nature of his injury, but not the severity of his injury, and nobody else does, either."

Well if he plays come week 1, he will most definatly be following in T.O's footsteps

Damn this just sucks. Two promising receivers that were making strides bite the dust to injuries.

I sense some rope a dope here -

Tivo said high ankle sprain/fracture

I'm hoping its not as serious against all facts tonight, we have scrubs behind top 5 WR's.....

Wade is dumb for playing Hurd!!!! Especially, how thin we are at WR. Now what?

Did you seriously just say that?

My 1980s 28-inch Magnavox told me there was no way in hell that anybody could say that looked like a fracture.

Guess the old Magnavox was wrong.

I don't think I'm gonna fault it, though...

Yes I did! What the hell! Why play Hurd? Yes, Hurd isn't a probowler but to put him in a game that means nothing makes zero sense.

You're absolutely correct. we shouldn't play any of our recievers at all...

Sam Hurd needs to ask Dirk Nowitzki how to come back from ankle sprains.

Because he is not a starter. He is someone who needs game time to get better. He is not an all-star, a great player, or even a good player. He is a decent player who is trying to get better. They don't get better by sitting on the bench in a pre-season game.

You guys complain that Wade is playing girly boy with Felix Jones, and then when he tries to help a player improve he's a freaking moron who can't tell the difference between his head and his butt. You people fail miserably.

No, This game is find out how the players on the bubble play. Amendola, Jefferson and some other scrubs should of played the game.

Leave him alone. I don't see why some of you bother to argue with guys who make idiotic post all the time.

So now we're looking at about a month for Austin, maybe more for Hurd, and who-knows with Stanback?

At least we know we're going to be creative against Cleveland.

He had three games to prove himself. One more game wasn't going to make that much of a difference.

This game is about improving your bench players, and evaluating your bubble players. Since there are only about 6 rosters spots open, what do you suggest? Fielding a team of scrubs fighting for 6 spots?

Austin could be back by the second game

And if Wade played all the scrubs and our starters were to look rusty on September 7th, you'd call Wade an idiot for sitting them in preseason instead of letting them get reps to build chemistry.

Hindsight's 20/20.

Hurd is no T.O. when it comes to Healing. Look for 8 weeks for Hurd. Stanback won't see the field as well. JMO.
