Orlando Scandrick wants to start. But he was professional in discussing the Cowboys decision to go with Mike Jenkins as the starter at right corner.

"I mean, it's working,'' Scandrick said. "We won, so I'm all for it. I want to win.''

Wade Phillips said the different technique required playing outside at corner and inside at corner in the team's nickel and dime packages _ Scandrick's primary role _ proved to be more difficult for the young corner to handle than he originally thought.

Scandrick understands, but doesn't want to be defined as a corner who strictly covers the slot receiver _ no matter how good he is at that task. He will embrace his role and work hard to expand it going forward.

"No one wants to be pigeonholed as that's all you can do, and that's what the NFL is about,'' Scandrick said. "You start off at something, that's what you're labeled as, that's what you're known as your whole career.

"It's like anything. If you don't play it, you don't have a chance to get better at it. So if I'm not playing outside, I really won't be getting any work at it until OTA (Organized Team Activities). So now, that person (Jenkins) has the upper hand.

"Me, personally, I think it will be set in stone a little bit.''

thats exactly what i expected from scandrick, the attitude, drive and desire
i still think in time, scandrick will be a lock down corner that teams wont want to throw at, that scandrick will be feared by opposing teams like deion was

Scandrick just missed another tackle

:laugh2: not funny...but!!!

I like Scandrick. I am very happy he is one of the best DB's on the team. He does have a point. You don't want to start out being labeled a person who only covers the slot.

I would avoid that label to Mr. Scandrick.

Work on those tackles and not over-running the play and you might push Jenkins out as the starter at a later date.

Who knows.

Only thing I disagree with it the statement it is set in stone, nothing is set in stone. Jenkins needs to play well and at anytime an injury can take place.

Scandrick is funny as hell. "That person"... Anyhoot, he has good attitude, not sure where all the negative talk about the tude he had in college came from.

Unless Scandrick wants mega bucks, he's not going anywhere. Him and Jenkins are our future at CB.

I agree. I have no problem with what he said.

The way I see it, as often as Newman is hurt and the stage of his career he is entering, Scan is going to get good time as a starting CB. His experience at slot is only going to make him that much more valuable. Though he may not know it right now, the fact that he is going to get as much playing time as he is in the slot, combined with the experience he will undoubtably get at corner is going to pay off for him big time when his next two contracts come up.

What is sad is that there are several Cowboy players who began their careers labeled into something and worked their way into being a starter. Scandrick seems to be taking the wrong perspective on his situation.

I think it would be worth a try to put Newman in the slot and Scandrick and Jenkins at the corners.

I also think Ball should get some more playing time. Give one of the other 3 CBs a rest every once in a while.

Or, let's see what Ball has at safety in place of Hamlin.
